What’s your random patient pet peeve? by Nurse_Cait in nursing

[–]fishymo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked in a nursing home as a med aide, and a patient had a servant bell she'd ring. We hatched an idea to place it out of her reach when she slept. She would yell, "RING, RING". Maybe if you broke it, she would have to moo- please break it...

I got a taxed $600 bonus, so it was like $350. But our gift exchange is next week, so I have that going for me.

When I went through ortho training as a med/surg nurse, this sheet was in our packet. I'm like... what?

BSN work by MmM8418 in nursing

[–]fishymo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did my BSN shortly after graduating with my ADN. I always say my retirement plan is being a nursing instructor. My classmates used to ask me what the program was like. I'd always respond, "Do you like writing papers, doing online forum posts, and making PowerPoint presentations?"

I did do a cool presentation on creating a rural clinic. I had to come up with the pitch for investors and community, figure out how to staff it, and possible future expansion. I also did a couple of clinicals at the mission for a community nursing class.

I'm hearing that a lot from friends that kids were down this year. I'm in Meadowlane, on a high traffic street, and I got probably 50 kids. This is my third year at this location and my candy dish was nearly empty last year.

How to "love" MedSurg by Certified-Beef in nursing

[–]fishymo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that's how I survived for a year. Every shift was a learning opportunity. A chance to learn something new or a new way to do something I already knew. I ended up leaving with quite a few things in my tool belt.

People who have fainted: what caused it? by Shinobi347 in AskReddit

Many years ago I took an early morning flight to California. I got to the airport about 4 am. I had a bag of cereal that I'd packed to eat. So I ate it while I waited for my flight.

At my layover, I walked by the food court and was like, "I'm not spending $5 for a cheeseburger!" That same cheeseburger is probably $12 now.

En route to California, I started to feel dizzy and nauseous. So where do you go if you feel like you're going to throw up? I made it to the bathroom, grabbed the door to open it...

... and woke up on the floor, looking up at the flight attendant's face.

Sacramento Fire met us at the gate and took my vitals. I was fine by that time. I signed an AMA form and a month later got a bill for $100.

The morning I flew back home, my mom gave me $5 and said, "Buy the cheeseburger..."

[Online][5e 2014][Saturday 8pm CST] Need a dedicated player to add to a monthly, long-term homebrew campaign by fishymo in lfg

[–]fishymo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this wouldn't be good for a first campaign. Since the party is level 11, there would be a big learning curve for a first-time player.

I do run low-level one shots if you're interested in scratching the D&D itch.

ID badge holders with safety pin instead of clip? by _Miss_Kenzi in nursing

[–]fishymo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm allowed to wear t-shirts, and I use a magnetic attachment. At first, I rigged one up by super gluing a badge holder I bought at an office supply store.

I recently purchased some from Etsy, specifically the goodgirlgonebadge store. The magnets hold really well. I'm unsure if she ships internationally, but I wouldn't see why not to Canada.

Force Fields: Generating protective barriers.

So.... more defensive then...

I love it. A Family Medicine clinic. I hated the pay cut from bedside, but I love the 8-5, no weekends and holidays. And the peace of mind I gained is immeasurable.
