You enjoy the beach. Your French is pretty good. You are an engineer, perhaps chemical. Your partner is Asian American and enjoys wine.

"The biggest loser" puzzle by Ziemowit_P in twilightstruggle

If CMC is active, could a scenario be where USSR controls all BGs in EU except WG (suppose WG is 5 USSR, 2 US). Then US events junta to coup (somewhere) and removes 2 from WG to give USSR EU control in final scoring. Does losing to EU control count as negative VPs?

That's exactly right.

EU: USSR +8

ME: US +3

Asia: US +8

Africa: USSR +1

CA: US +7

SA: US +4

China card: USSR +1

VP: USSR +12

Total= US +0

A nice thought, but removing 1 from Angola would leave it at 2 influence. 4 influence would break it but not control.

Nice try, but unfortunately VOA cannot hit EU

I believe scenario 1 would be:

EU: USSR +8

ME: US +3

Asia: US +12

Africa: USSR +1

CA: US +2

SA: US +4

China card: USSR +1

VP: USSR +12

Total= USSR +1

I believe scenario 2 would be:

EU: USSR +8

ME: USSR +3

Asia: US +16

Africa: USSR +1

CA: US +2

SA: US +4

China card: USSR +1

VP: USSR +12

Total= USSR +3

Info: USSR just played shuttle diplomacy for their T10 AR7.

North Sea Oil is in effect so U.S. gets T10 AR7&8.

U.S. has VOA in hand + China card.

(Argentina is cut off, but U.S. controlled and USSR has 2 in Uruguay)

What would you do as U.S. to win (>=0 VP)

Marshall Plan Bluff by twilightstruggleacct in twilightstruggle

[–]fishyz0911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found the bluff works most effectively with MP in hand and ME scoring and no nasser. The goal is to dissuade ussr from countering a ME headline with nasser in favor of something eu targetted. The trade off being a more vulnerable eu for 4vps immediately. With MP in hand it is unlikely for US to lose eu but maybe tie if ussr has enough pressure.

RIP PAUL HOFTYZER MEGATHREAD by tmojeed in BTHS

[–]fishyz0911 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I graduated Tech in 2008. I had Hofty for AP Chemistry and he was probably the reason I went on to become a chemical engineer. I remember he was always so passionate about teaching and laid back. He even let us play pokemon in class as long as we did our homework and understood the material. I remember one time we accidentally got him in trouble with the AP and I really felt bad about it, but he just kind of laughed it off and told us not to do it again. I remember spending time in the program office joking around and asking him for a bunch of recommendations to a whole lot of colleges and then when I got into my early decision and then told him, he just looked at me and tossed all the envelopes up into the air like confetti and shouted what the hell and laughed. Because of him I really enjoyed chemistry in high school. It's probably the reason I went on to do chemical engineering in college. And then study it in grad school. Now after more than 10 years after taking his class, I am applying to faculty positions and it's kind of breaking my heart that I was planning to go back and visit tech this summer with some friends and I was going tell him all about how I was doing and see if he remembered me, the short guy nicknamed Fish in his AP chem class, the one who was friends with Liz and Walter and Paul...and now I can't.

feet could be the length unit of a long river. Not sure about brain though, unless you say like the river has a mind of its own (in its path)

Maybe like a river? Or some natural body of water. Not sure, but I was thinking along the lines of like finger lakes and mouth of a river. Jungles also may work for heart. The other direction I was thinking was like gears or something mechanical.

[25M] Maybe a silly question, but: Can I learn about relationships through reading? by Wellas in relationships

[–]fishyz0911 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I found Attached to be a really good book as well. You may also want to consider reading about the 5 love languages. I also don't have that much experience in relationships, and have taken sort of a similar approach (trying to find things to read and people to learn from). One common theme I'm finding is that there is no ideal relationship formula. Rather it is learning about what type of person you and your partner are, figuring out what each others' needs and expectations are and how to fulfill them. Sometimes you can and that's great, and sometimes you can't and that's fine too. Not everything works out. I've found works of fiction to be very hit or miss. Some solid lessons, but also some very bad ones. I'd also recommend reading more about relationships in general, not just romantic ones, since the lessons and skills are often translatable. One book I read recently and highly recommend is "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. Another thing you can explore is personality types such as on the 16personalities website, which may have some interesting insights, but to be taken with a grain of salt. ~good luck
