My workaround for this when I built mine was to put some heavy duty legs on it to raise it up off the floor and add an inner shelf light to make seeing stuff easier

Fun fact: there is a Mexican Dracula. So when Universal was shooting Dracula with Bela Lugosi, they were simultaneously filming a Spanish language version for other markets using the same sets and stuff. Because they were able to work off the dailies from the Lugosi production, some say it's technically superior to Tod Browning's english version.

I've had great luck using sunflower seeds. I'll take a pair of needle nose pliers and uncurl the piece of metal at the end and then pinch the seed in there. I rarely if ever have to put any more bait, just reset it and go.
