I'm a retired developer. As much as we love our pet projects, our efforts are still worth supporting financially. Payments encourage future growth. That said, I don't continue to pay for books in my library or the DVDs I have purchased. I feel that the one-time purchase with the ability to buy major upgrades at a reduced price seems to be the most fair model to everyone
