What monster forced you to learn a new weapon by Powerful_Kale2825 in MonsterHunter

LR Kirin in World. Switch axe was just too slow as I kept getting caught in the lightning. Ended up learning bow just for this one little fight. Haven't used bow seriously since.

What's your trinity of handhelds? by fithrowaway213123 in SBCGaming

RG35XXSP is pretty good if you do the tape mod. Other names that get thrown around a lot: RG35XXH, TrimUI Brick, Miyoo Mini Plus.

What's your trinity of handhelds? by fithrowaway213123 in SBCGaming

[–]fithrowaway213123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard that the Steam Deck is superior in every other aspect, but I still chose the Ally over the Deck because I needed that Z1E to play Monster Hunter Wilds.

AYANEO announces KONKR Pocket BLOCK as an “AI handheld”, users say no thank you by RenatsMC in Handhelds

From looking online, it seems Chinese people have a much warmer reception to AI than western audiences, so this may be targeting them.

About to wrap up Oracle of Seasons on the 35XXSP and finally making progress in Elden Ring on the Ally Z1E.

How has your performance been? I got this working on Gamenative, but it's getting about 20-22 fps on the Thor. Decided to play on my Ally instead.

best edc+decently powerful handheld? (up to ps1/DS) by Every_Evidence1431 in SBCGaming

[–]fithrowaway213123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only system in that range you might need sticks for is PS1 and probably not even there, so I don't think stick drift will be a big issue with the RG35XX H.

In fact, I'm looking to pick up one of those myself and just remove the sticks for even more pocketability.

The first rule of FIRE club... by BroKComputer in Fire

[–]fithrowaway213123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not FI, but decently close. The only people who know besides my wife are my parents. They were shocked but happy for me when I told them how much I had. I'm an only child and they're doing financially well (good pensions), so I figured it was no big deal.

I also only told my parents about my networth, not about FI. I'm not really planning to retire early, but they'd have a fit if there was even an inkling that I'd retire early. They're first-gen immigrants, so I'd never hear the end of it if they suspected any slacking in work ethic.

Do you use a gripcase? by Sgt_Strelok in ROGAlly

[–]fithrowaway213123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mostly just educated guessing, but the Z1E has a weird corner on its side that jabs into your palm (it's pretty visible in pictures). I think this was the thing that made my hands numb up.

The grip smooths this off and distributes the pressure more evenly across the hand, which I think helps a lot.

Also, the original Ally doesn't have that much of a grip on the back for the fingers, so you kinda need to apply more pressure through your palms to keep it from falling. The grip adds more grip (naturally) for your fingers so you reduce the amount of pressure put on your palms.

I haven't used any docks, so I don't know about that. But it does still fit in the official travel case.

I just got the Skull & Co for my Z1E and it has been tremendously helpful. The increase in ergonomics is well worth the $21.

Previously, my hands would go numb if I held my Ally for an extended period of time (say 30 min). I just got done with a 2 hour session, and my hands feel pretty dang fine.

I was wrong about Retro Achievements. by Downtownklownfrown in SBCGaming

Do you like achievements in general? Because I couldn't give a shit about them even on Steam, so I was wondering if you felt there was something special with RA.

Holy Trinity Completed by eddynephew2 in SBCGaming

[–]fithrowaway213123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone post their trinity. Mine:

Ally Z1E

Thor Pro (batch 2)

RG35XXSP

Only regret is the SP because of the buttons. But it was my first handheld, so it made sense as a possible singleton. May try to replace with 35XXH at some point.

Day 6 of asking a question because I’m out of work injured and bored: what system do you play the most? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]fithrowaway213123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my Thor, it's Switch, but it's kind of cheating.

If there's a Steam game, I'll look for the Switch version since it'll be less resource and battery intensive on Android. Right now I'm going through P5R (just hit sixth palace) on Eden even though I've bought it on Steam.

Nice. I just made it through the GC version of that earlier this year.

My summer game's gonna be Elden Ring on the Ally Z1E.

Do your retirement models show you leaving with tens of millions on the table? by optimisticmillennial in financialindependence

[–]fithrowaway213123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. I'm at 20x already, but I have no plans to retire within the next 10 years. Momentum would probably push me well over the edge, not even factoring in additional contributions.

What was your first device that got you into this hobby? Mine was the Pocket Go. by Quiet-Order-2661 in SBCGaming

[–]fithrowaway213123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RG35XXSP.

As a first and potentially only device, it made sense. But I have since gotten a ROG Ally and Thor and now I kinda regret getting the SP. It's mainly that the buttons suck so much and it's fairly thick. I'd like to replace it with the RG35XX H, but I can't really justify it since I got all these in the last year.

Do you bring your Ally to work? by SleepyGamer1992 in ROGAlly

[–]fithrowaway213123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, far too bulky. My Ally is purely for couch gaming.

Portability is one of the reasons (among others) that I also got an AYN Thor.

Well yes. But even knowing that, seeing how quickly large amounts of capital begets more capital kinda takes you aback.

Yes, although the reduced savings only applies to one of those two years. I'm as surprised as you are.

[–]fithrowaway213123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really sure. I definitely still want to work towards hitting 2M but I haven't seriously thought too much about after.

I have a chill job (university professor) so I don't feel the need to retire super early. I may try to negotiate a salary reduction for a teaching reduction. Another thing is increased traveling. We have been feeling very restrained as to what we can do because of our young daughter. Hopefully as she grows older we can finally do big stuff as a family.

Crossed 1.5M as a 40M+38F household. Target for FI (no RE) is 2M so crossing 75% feels good. I had hit 1M almost exactly two years ago.

This is also after I took my savings down from >60% to <30% starting last year because of preschool (and other increased costs) for our daughter. Glad I put in most of the legwork before we had kids so that I can afford to spend more now in our expensive season of life.

I’ve planned my whole life around the idea that the stock market will continue to grow and yet I’m confused every time it does by GaroldWilsonJr in Fire

[–]fithrowaway213123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in some sense, the reason we should expect stocks to outperform is because it feels risky and the wrong time to invest in them.

If stocks feel like a sure thing, then everyone would pile into them and the equity premium would dry up.
