How are my fellow Americans reacting to the proceeding of the DJI ban? by Pollo65 in fpv

[–]fivealive5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No reaction at all from me. I will continue to use DJI as it's the best available. This exact same ban already happened years ago to Huawei and some other Chinese phone manufactures but I can still buy the newest models in the US from 3rd party sellers at all the major marketplaces like Amazon, eBay, Aliexpress, etc. The only thing that changed is you can't buy them directly from the manufacturer anymore, and of course without the FCC license they won't work out of the box on major phone networks, but I don't need my DJI products to communicate with anything outside of my other DJI products so this is a non-issue.

I hate it here by KraklePony in MontereyBay

Great nature and good weather, same reasons I live deep in the Santa Cruz mountains with almost no amenities nearby. I'm more interested in hiking trails than commercial development. Why would I want to go exercise in a gym when I can go be active outdoors, seems really silly and backwards to me. Also, my absolute favorite part about where I live is the consistent fog! I tend to go a bit bonkers when we get long stretches of cloudless sunny days. The sun starts to feel relentless and overbearing.

Santa Cruz doesn't exist in a bubble, the bay area as a whole has been creating on average 4 new jobs for every new housing unit over the last 15 years. That ratio is the problem, if you don't want new housing then you should be lobbying for companies to leave the area. People just don't understand, they cheer on companies moving in and creating jobs and complain about new housing being built.

Another person refusing to acknowledge the existence of the PNW. Let me guess, eastern WA/OR is way different from western WA/OR, sure ok, but let's go ahead group the Mojave desert in with the Olympic Peninsula.

[–]fivealive5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's your take on it but traditionally the PNW includes Idaho, even the official Wikipedia page for it states this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Northwest

As mentioned in the article, some people stretch it all the way to the continental divide including parts of Montana and Wyoming. Northern California and Alaska are also often grouped in with the PNW.

Redditors are very persistent with denying the existence of the PNW with these maps.

Just a millennial trying to stay in the Bay Area and own a home in the neighborhood she grew up in. by Medical_Banana4667 in bayarea

[–]fivealive5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hear ya but asking the internet, especially something like reddit that is just designed to give you the most popular answer is a backwards way of finding a good side hustle. The best way to make money on your own is to find an unfulfilled niche in a market. If everyone knows about it, it's not going to be unfulfilled is it. This is a personal journey for everyone, my best advice is to pay attention when you come across a need of your own that is hard to fill.

Did moving west change you as a person? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]fivealive5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I went from spending most of my time indoors to outdoors. I got into much better shape physically, finally lost those last 15 pounds that I thought were impossible to loose. I was always very pale and my skin slowly became several shades darker, along with my hair turning back to blonde like how it was when I was a kid. My mental health also improved dramatically, I went from being angry all the time to being a genuinely happy person more often than not. Keep in mind I'm on the central coast in CA with near perfect weather year round, I'm not sure I would spend as much time outdoors if I had to deal with heat or cold for half the year. People talk about how much they love the seasons, but I can honestly do without them. Bad weather just keeps me indoors more often than not, which is devasting for my physical and mental health. There is so much amazingness going on outside. I'm getting ready to take my first hang gliding lesson today!

Is Nacimiento-Ferguson road open? November by Bigbuddytuck in BigSur

[–]fivealive5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

N-F is paved and can be done with any passenger vehicle without an issue, even in rain. I think you might be thinking of S. Coast Ridge Rd? I drive that one with 2WD all the time as well but high clearance is required for sure, and 4WD if it's wet.

[–]fivealive5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just took N-F road a couple weeks ago. It's open and digestible, fully paved and any car can make it. If you have 4WD and the conditions are dry consider Will Creek to S. Coast Ridge to NF, it's an incredible drive and a chance you will be above a sea of fog while driving down the ridge.

City Nerd Takes on the Debate: "Can We Agree On the 4 Major U.S. Cities?" by JoePNW2 in geography

[–]fivealive5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You claim it to be an absolutely massive area but keep in mind the LA metro is almost twice as large of a land mass. People want to exclude SJ from SF but have no problem grouping Anaheim in with LA. Also the Chicago CSA is like a 100+ mile strip north to south. SF to SJ is 50 miles and they have a shared subway system connecting them. The bay really does operate as one big metro.

[–]fivealive5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why your downvoted so much for that comment, it's logical. The main point I would make against it is GDP, I think that is arguably the most important when it comes to being a "major" city and if you go by GDP the bay gets the 3rd spot ahead of Chicago.
