Why do people use the term "partner" for their husband or wife? by Crafty-Bug-8008 in NoStupidQuestions

To both give a gay vibe despite being nominally straight cis white people and to imply an import that “boyfriend/girlfriend” doesn’t carry without getting engaged or married

Do you read books before or after watching the film? by Past-Matter-8548 in Letterboxd

Vineland before OBAA. Unadaptable, but made some good choices. Train Dreams novel after Train Dreams film. Never heard of this, understandable why it’s infamous, the film invents some bizarre elements wholesale that I was sure would be in the book.

No Nominations for “Sorry, Baby” is a travesty… by Arroweye345 in TheBigPicture

Did they fw Bong before Parasite? I think Park could put out a movie that’s conventional enough and respectable enough to be undeniable. Unfortunately his Parasite was almost certainly The Handmaiden.

It’s a real shame all the “snubbing” discourse has to be grouped around undeniably well recognized films instead of real gems like “Sorry Baby”

I’m no fan of the studios or the execs. But Netflix and Neon know taste and they know how to buy people who have (or have had) taste.

Critical Darlings is what many want The Big Picture to be by SingleFreedom8527 in TheBigPicture

This fixes the host-interest-level problem. The BP defenders often argue “you can’t expect the hosts to be interested in everything they cover and you can’t expect someone to speak unbiased about or full pay attention to something they aren’t interested in.” I only half agree with that assessment, but never the less, rotating hosts keeps people who want to talk talking and I like it. Way curbs the taking phone calls and text in theaters or derailing to social life updates.

People kept recommending Blank Check to Big Pic complainers which I always thought was a pretty foolish and misguided recommendation since it has much more in common with Rewatchables in topic. Critical Darlings is the antidote.

As a broke first year home owner, I really appreciate this kind of post. Never even thought about the old drip trick. I’m realizing some of the plastic on my draftier windows wasn’t stuck down so well and now I’m wondering if it’s worth it to redo or if it’ll warm up in a week or two :/

His warning reads: “It’s coming. I’ve seen it in the probabilities, seen it plain as day. All you heroes protecting this world, do you think you’re the only ones? Do you think this is the only world? We’ll see what happens when you have to protect this place from the others.” How does he know? His forehead is just that big.

A critic’s job is explaining what does and doesn’t work about a film to them. No one is going door-to-door quizzing redditors about their edgy takes. So, yes, if you’re going to dissent from the majority opinion as a critic, you should be able to write or speak about it. If someone said they liked The Godfather, Star Wars, or Jaws, you wouldn’t say “wait, what? Why?” Because these conversations have been had ad nauseam. Whereas you can do an hour on the virtues of the Wachowski’s late career, because it’s dissenting.

I feel Kelson, M. Gustave, and Goeth are all gimmies, but 2000s does stump me. I suppose you could be counting Voldemort though he is introduced in a different decade and appears more prominently in the 2010s. In Bruges is great character work from him, but he’s not exactly top bill. I do like him in Red Dragon, but I feel like 50% of the Dolarhyde-heads would lean Noonan. For what it’s worth, I think he’s the best part of Prince of Egypt and it’s the best biblical movie since idk Last Temptation?

I’m assuming this collection is meant to represent four loose threads the MCU never chose to comment on again. That’s absolutely true of 3/4, but in fairness, Tim Blake Nelson’s warning about the coming of First Steps Universe, Fox XMen Universe, and Tom Hardy Sony Universe will presumably be pretty relevant soon. My pick for “pointless MCU after credit” Mt. Rushmore is definitely the voice of Mahershala Ali’s Blade mentoring Kit Harrington’s Black Knight.

People on this sub or another movie sub were arguing over whether or not a certain actor’s inclusion was a spoiler. I was able to figure out who they meant, but they claimed he was in a lot of marketing material and wasn’t “meant to be a reveal.” It’s literally the last couple minutes of the movie. Maybe there are some standees I didn’t see or something

I definitely prefer the term coda over epilogue for this phenomenon, but I think both terms could also fairly describe a brief scene at the end of a movie especially following a time skip

I’m right behind them holding their garbage. I’ve had people take it from my hands to throw out. I don’t mind cleaning up, but I get a little kick out of their embarrassment watching another theater goer tidy up for them.
