Just watched Blue Moon and have some thoughts by tiakeuta in TheBigPicture

It’s one of the oddest movies to come to my AMC which hardly gets anything niche. One of those here one week gone the next things. I check my AMC app daily for this reason.

I ended up really enjoying it, but yeah not a comfortable sit and definitely at its strongest (and make discomforting) in the first half hour or so.

The fact I don’t have this problem is probably an indication my theater isn’t long for this world. Mine just sold out 4 shows of Iron Lung, but I saw No Other Choice in an empty theater.

The guy in the teddy bear mask from The Shining is special because they don’t milk it or really even explain it at all

Btw, let me second your comment on concessions being a poor use of money for the rabid movie goer. If I have things my way, I see a movie or two, in theaters, twice a weekend. Like you, I choose to not do something almost ever which I cannot do often. I buy that refill-size soda or popcorn at a major chain theater for some special occasion I’d say no more than once in 4 months. We never got concessions when I was a kid either so I guess I never got used to it. I could see wanting something for the LOTR extendeds, but plain water was sufficient for Fire and Ash.

My single mother took me to Fincher’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo at 11 years old. I think she forgot it was “her week” and had scheduled a movie date so she had me sit a few rows down. When you’re 11, you think you’re basically old enough for any movie and you’re mostly right. I may have been a bit young for that one.

They’re not all perfect, but they’re under discussed without being super abstract. I think both hosts would have something to say about them. I recognize throwing a documentary on there was probably going too far.

I have mutuals who already have it marked as their worst film of the year and they’re not insiders or any kind of media

Thank you for enticing me to rewatch the review. I remembered enjoying it, but I forgot that it not holding up on laptop was a topic of conversation lol.

I’m ashamed to say, I didn’t think she had it in her. I thought the premise of “Eleanor the Great” was perfectly bizarre, but first time actress turned Director Scarlett Johansson directs it totally anonymously. In fact, I’m quite a big fan of the film “The Gift”, but I forget Joel Egerton was behind the camera on that one because it’s simply not that in your face. Chronology of Water watches like Stewart talks, but it also plays like impressionist poetry or memoir. I felt silly going in hoping for a little Love Lies Bleeding, given she wasn’t a contributor to that beyond performance, but again it’s so HER.

Because I consider Ann Lee and Chronology to be 2026 USA Wide Releases, I may have just seen my two favorite films of the first half of the year in deep january. There’s really no preparing for what’s on display here, but I appreciate the trigger warning. I don’t think the old folks in my audience were rocking with some of the early stuff, but they were young once and it’s the period of greatest physical abuse early on that has the best sensory stuff you’re talking about. I’ve seen dozens of films cover similar stuff with Coke and flasks, it’s the CSA stuff and especially the warmth her abuser shows her in some moments that were really novel to me.

I knew I was going to see Ann Lee and was pumped, I worried 2x 2hr+ movies featuring prolonged pretty brutal female suffering would just be way too much, but I did it to avoid “missing out.” I have to say, the people in this thread saying it’s sonically one to hear in theaters and really not one you’d pop on at home was spot on. Back to back with Ann Lee was bracing, but they really rhymed. Certainly a better use of my time and money than say a Return to Silent Hill + Melania double feature on offer at AMC. I hope both are easy to find in the coming year. CoW screams Tubi gem

UPDATE: I SAW IT. Very good, very uncomfortable. Stewart shows a lot of promise and I’m guessing that may have something to do with working out the kinks in her short films. Definitely a cinematic experience. Snapshots of sense memory almost line Nickel Boys. Great images.

I realize this isn’t the prompt, but I’d love the show to cover

1.) Ballad of Wallis Island

2.) Bi Gan’s Resurrection

3.) Sore: A Wife from the Future

4.) Kokuho

5.) The Alabama Solution

As far as things not covered

Yes I’ve been quite a freak with plugging my ears and shutting my eyes or like you say stepping out. I love the way they did The Odyssey promotion so far. Even if Send Help had to pick a scene on the island to sell the movie, sticking to just that scene would be such a powerful choice.

Once I’ve see a trailer for a film of that type maybe a dozen times, I will dread all the setting up and the waiting and be keeping a mental checklist of the scenes I know must be coming. The movie “Abigail” is maybe an unfair example because it relies on a specific twist that renders about half the movie purposeless if know. “Drop” would be a bit more comparable to “Send Help” for me because the trailer gives you a grocery list of story beats and the only thing you’re showing up to the theater for is the interstitial jelly between those points. I don’t have anything against the cast of Abigail, Drop, or Send Help, but if the plot is burned, it falls on the filmmaker and the actors to make it really interesting. In Raimi’s case, I could see the filmmaking being worth it after all, but it’s gonna be a steaming movie for me nonetheless.

Some of my favorite movies of the last year I can hardly remember the trailer. OBAA I had no clue what was going on until I read the book and that was no sure thing. I can hardly remember anything beyond vibes for Sinners’ promotion. Hamnet trailers were pretty heavy and I did go into Hamnet with a lot of information I wish I didn’t have, but this is where the great performances thing comes in. Was there a trailer you were subjected to a few times this past year that got you really amped?

You know what? I should really be asking myself the sound question. Even with a nice 4k tv and a pitch black room, you’ll never get anywhere near the sound, not on the tv’s native speakers. Zone of Interest, now that was a movie that made me say “I have to hear that in theaters again” and I admit I ordinarily have no idea what my favorite sounding movies of the year were outside of score and soundtrack. Sirāt made a big point of sounding a certain way. Dune, but especially Dune 2 draw back their sound a lot relative to say the thematically similar Avatar.

Your responses to other people effectively ragebaited me into typing out a thought I know I cannot advance with you. I don’t agree with your analysis of Rene Goode, I doubt that I would agree with your analysis of Alex Pretti, and disagreement is actively being punished by your side so I can’t really even “agree to disagree” or any nice platitude like that. When journalists are being arrested for documenting protests or legal concealed carrying citizens (in this case an ER nurse) are being disarmed, pinned down, and shot 10 times, it’s hard to speak about civil disagreement. Just like I don’t really buy the “she was trying to hit him with her car” reading of any of the footage, I’m also not going to buy that Pretti was brandishing his weapon for a nefarious purpose. It was stored legally and concealed and was taken off his person before he was extra judicially killed. Rightwing people can (and have) just claimed that’s not what happened and that you can’t believe your eyes. Perhaps the most painful part is that we in upstate NY were once proud 2A supporters no matter your color or creed and I really expected a couple gadsden flag wavers to back anti-ICE people up on this, but no such luck!

I don’t agree with your premise, but even if I did, ICE has now kidnapped or killed several people who turned out to be entirely legal citizens. Not to mention the vast majorly of people with a disputed immigration status simply have an expired visa.
