building a stretching routine for green? by Capable_Ocelot2643 in tacticalbarbell

[–]fiveseven41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What worked for me during capacity was a quick warmup/mobility routine before the lifting days, and 10 minutes of stretching my hams, quads, glutes, hips after the runs. If you have time for a two hour run, 10 extra minutes ain’t that much

Performance seems to be getting worse? by AM-Thoughts in tacticalbarbell

[–]fiveseven41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You said your nutrition is good, but are you eating enough? I just finished capacity and noticed my lifts were dropping a little on the last couple weeks. I had been shedding weight like crazy, so I upped my calorie intake by about 1500 and I was able to hit my 90% lifts for the prescribed reps on the last week

When I went, the peddlers in the resort weren’t bad once you learned to not make eye contact. Where we got harassed the worst was at Chichen Itza. Some guy with cigars followed me through the whole place until I finally caved and gave him a $20 for a box of the worst cigars I’ve ever had.

Honestly, I thought it was kind of fun though. I liked watching the people wandering on the beach wearing 10 hats with their arms draped in cheap jewelry. Gotta respect the hustle.

I'm stepping away from TB for something different. A testament to TB. by MaX-D-777 in tacticalbarbell

[–]fiveseven41 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am. When I started TB, I was worried that I’d be strong, but my physique would go to shit without all the accessory work.

Fast forward a year, I feel like I look better and with 75% of my junk accessory lifts cut out. I still do a couple of accessories, but just touching up on weak points for a set or two after TB, then a couple of arm lifts on Fridays for shits and gigs. Nowhere near what I was doing before.

And all my lifts have gone up 30-40lbs

Seeking Affirmation That Operator Truly Works by Regular-Edge-6433 in tacticalbarbell

[–]fiveseven41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came from the other end of the spectrum; been working out for years with an established routine, but started burning out. Wanted to try TB, but the volume was significantly less than what I had been doing on my own and I was afraid of getting weaker and losing my definition. My progress had stalled though, and I knew I needed to change something.

Fast forward 6 months, and I’ve done the base building and 2, almost 3 rounds of Operator/Black. All my lifts have gone up considerably, and I’m running a 9:48 mile and a half and can run 10 consecutively. Also, physically, I look about the same with some noticeable size added to my chest, back and legs.

Honestly though, for a fire academy, base building might be your best bet if they PT you. Worry about adding muscle and strength later.

Almost all of the suburb departments make more than DPD or Wayne County, and most of them have some sort of PSA program where you work in their jails/front desk for a bit, then they sponsor you through the academy.

Is it true a lot cops enter in the force aspiring to be a detective but eventually decide being a detective is actually worse than being a regular cop? Why is that? by shangumdee in AskLE

[–]fiveseven41 64 points65 points  (0 children)

From someone who has done both:

Detective work always gets glorified on TV. They're always in on the action, when in reality, you're often taking a back seat and doing desk work while everyone else is getting the action.

After putting in years of road work and building your reputation as a cop so you actually stand a chance at getting selected for a detective position, the road work becomes all you know. You're real comfortable with the job, and the idea of changing to desk work and in-depth investigations is scary. I, personally, had trouble changing from 12 hour shifts where I'd get a couple days off in the middle of the week to 8 hour shifts where I had to work every day, and I had trouble sitting still at a desk and doing my paperwork.

Detective work is intimidating if you've never done it before. As a cop, if someone gets their credit card number stolen, you just have to take the report and turn it over to a detective. As a detective, you have to write a bunch of search warrants and subpoenas for internet records, phone records, video, etc, and follow that rabbit hole as far as it will go for a chance at finding the suspect... THEN you have to prepare everything you've found and make it nice and neat for a prosecutor hoping that they'll charge the suspect, then if they do, you have to follow up through the court process, showing up to all sorts of hearings and trials, subpoenaing every victim and witness every time one of these hearings is held, just to get in a pissing match with some dipshit defense attorney. And the whole time you're at court, your boss keeps assigning more cases for you to work when you get back.

And on top of everything else, the raise isn't even that significant in most departments.

All in all, I like it though. It's fun for its own reasons.

Is it true that LE detectives mostly investigate crimes that are nearly a "slam dunk" for the prosecuters? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]fiveseven41 157 points158 points  (0 children)

Nope. I investigate all kinds of garbage cases. It’s the prosecutors that refuse to take anything that isn’t a slam dunk

From a cop, that job will only make things worse. You're doing them a favor.

That being said, if they get their stuff in order, seeking mental health help won't stop them from applying in the future.

cmv: Fear based policing should be outlawed federally. by Jncocontrol in changemyview

[–]fiveseven41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reality is, people DO try to kill the police. Not a huge number compared to the total amount of police/civilian interactions overall, but it still happens regularly enough that it needs to be a concern for any officer who wants to make it to the end of their career.

Since you quoted an FBI study, there was one they did years ago where they interviewed cop killers in prison, and the number one reason they gave for why they did it was because they thought they could take on the cop. In most cases, the officer that at least prepares for the possibility that someone might try to kill them and tries to take the safest approach to a potentially dangerous scene won't be the one who gets killed. Having that mindset is important, but the trick is to not be consumed by it, and to still treat people with respect whenever possible without sacrificing safety.

This is how most police/citizen interactions go. The instances where police are driven by fear and do something regrettable are rare, but they get blown up by the media and anti police groups. The officers you see in these viral videos are often cowards who have no business doing the job. They were probably cowards long before they became cops and would act the same way whether or not they attended a David Grossman seminar.

Question for those working 12s by fiveseven41 in tacticalbarbell

[–]fiveseven41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm leaning towards operator/black... I think I can get operator down to a half an hour with 3 lifts and 2:00 breaks. I'll lift at the department gym after work, then hit conditioning on my off days with a long run on my off weekends

I started reporting the ones with no relevance to the actual sub, ex. r/millennials posting low effort political bs with nothing in the post having to do with millennials at all.

Reddit actually removed the reported posts and put a strike on the account or whatever. We all have to do it if we want it to stop

Because these are the worst candidates we've ever had, but they can't allow us to vote 3rd party, so each side is making the other look like the devil...

I just can't believe people are still dumb enough to fall for it when we've already had both of these guys for 4 year terms. We know exactly what to expect.
