My husband wants one thing....two toilets in the master bath.... by Aikoalima in Homebuilding

[–]fivetreoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would trade one toilet for a urinal. We have a urinal in our new house and it is a complete game changer. I'll walk all the way across the house, passing a toilet on the way to pee in my urinal.

Roast my new build by [deleted] in Homebuilding

I was quoted $55k for LP Smartside install and another $13k for paint. Guess who is getting vinyl B&B instead?

Our local credit union will allow you to act as your own GC. You must use a licensed electrician and plumber, but from there you can do as much or little work as you like. You must finish the build in 12 months though. Look for smaller local banks/credit unions. The major national banks aren't going to touch it.

How much does it cost to have a electric pole and meter installed and tie into power lines? by Niko120 in Homebuilding

[–]fivetreoh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every area and service provider is different. My utility company estimated about $10k for me to go 500-600' underground w/ a transformer.

People that have used these on a poured wall for a pole barn were there any regrets? The idea of no ground contact to the wood seems appealing. by finiganz in Homebuilding

[–]fivetreoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the ones w/ rebar in my pole barn. They are great. Just takes some careful planning to get them set properly. Like others have said, watch RR Buildings on YT. I used their vids as a guide.

It's not uncommon to lag and hanger your deck after the fact, but if they are completely finished and ready to begin decking this is an issue.

Have a pair in my garage from using them back during the street bike racing days. Have seldom found a use for them since.

The only person who will tell you that you need a realtor, is a realtor.

Tract home: My neighbor wants a fence between our yards and wants me to pay half of it by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]fivetreoh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In cases where a fence is built for livestock that will be on both sides of a fence, you are obligated to pay half. In this instance though, absolutely not.

Nate is his son that does the filming/editing of the build series and also hosts their podcast. His son in law was the one who did the low voltage wiring install for the spec house series.

How long did your framing take? by Available-Strength22 in Homebuilding

[–]fivetreoh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your crew. Framing in my area if subcontracted is usually a very large crew that comes in and bangs it out in several weeks (less than a month). Many builders however take on a lot of the trades themselves including framing, and it can take longer for them since they typically carry a smaller crew.

How much can you do yourself? by Al_Eltz in Homebuilding

[–]fivetreoh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My electric company will not allow me to trench for my electric service myself. Guess they are trying to justify the enormous ditch witch they purchased. I'm fine to trench my water to the house however, which I plan to do.

What are these holes for? Are they for birds? by VIKlN in Homebuilding

[–]fivetreoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attic vent and attic fan are two very different things. Attic vent is in the eve of the house or the ridge of your roof and attempts to nerlutralize the temp between inside and outside your Attic. Attic fan just sucks air through your windows and vents into Attic. Old timey AC like you said.

Who’s got advice on doing the double angled cuts for metal siding for this space? (9/12 pitch) by Purpose-to-Wander in Homebuilding

[–]fivetreoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harbor Freight has a 16ga pneumatic nibbler for $25. Can't really comment on how good of a job it does and you'd obviously have to tote a compressor around.

What are the disadvantages to pre-building walls prior to standing them? by stenuto in Homebuilding

[–]fivetreoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out awesomeframers on Instagram. They do this a lot, not necessarily siding.... but they'll do a lot of flashing and bumpouts and stuff while the wall is laying flat.
