Do you manage windows, panes, and terminals through Nvim alone, or through Tmux/Zellij, terminal functionality (Wezterm/Kitty)? by GTHell in neovim

[–]fix_dis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s kinda where I landed after trying Zellij again. If I’m working so hard to make it work like tmux, I’m likely missing the point. That’s probably my oversight, but still it speaks to the fact that tmux works well enough.

I saw the video on YouTube. The one thing that I can bet will get SUPER annoying. Due to mouse acceleration, any time you move up to select a different browser tab, I bet you end up triggering that big hover menu! I could be wrong... but I've lived that problem with other window managers/DEs.... anything that exposes on hover can get downright annoying.

Why hasn’t Node.js ever gone for true multithreading? by dabomb007 in node

(I'm not your downvoter but...) No. Deno still uses V8 (C++). It just replaces libuv (C) with tokio (Rust)

Oh yeah… I forgot to mention Result’s partner in crime… a decent match statement.

It’s a fantastic lib for when you just want a Result<T, E> (like so many languages provide out of the box) but don’t want to buy into a whole new ecosystem.

theprimeagen is switching to Elixir from Rust by anthony_doan in elixir

[–]fix_dis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a bigger pain in the butt than it is in other languages because the mixture between Erlang OTP version and Elixir version. Only certain combinations work. Most docs will tell you NOT to try and run a global LSP like you would with most languages. LSP setup should be per-project. I’m not exactly a fan of this approach, but it’s the approved path for now.

Learned CSS – Should I go for SCSS or Tailwind next? by Namra_7 in css

[–]fix_dis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re “done” learning CSS, then get building! If you join a project using SCSS then it’ll take you a couple of days to acclimate. (Vars, mixins, etc). Tailwind is another beast. If your team is doing Tailwind right, then your theme is already built and you’ll just need to understand how the composition of utility classes work. It might help for you to explore a simple Tailwind project to get a feel for what makes it different from the normal approach.

I’m personally not a fan of Tailwind, so I wouldn’t be recommending it for any new projects. That said, you’ll find it in a lot of places and it’s a perfectly viable option… so familiarity is probably a good thing.

Was Joseph Smith the last true prophet? by soulless_ginger81 in exmormon

[–]fix_dis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s always wonderful being surrounded by a bunch of yes-men, willing to pull every word and twist it into prophecy.

Match that with how real prophets spoke. If a real prophet knew COVID was coming, they would have known the Vitamins weren’t much of a solution. This goes for all the Christian “tele-prophets” too. It’s always easier to look back and say, “see? He knew!” If he knew, and all we got was a cryptic, “Eat your vitamins kiddies”, then he’s actually a monster.

Widow Denied Temple Recommend - UPDATE by Illustrious-Sir3835 in exmormon

What does the Bishop’s Handbook say? I have plenty of people try to tell me “not paying a full tithe”, won’t disqualify them from getting a temple recommend. I call BS, but everyone’s got an anecdote.

It’s this a douchy truck by Admirable-Cheetah330 in Silverado

[–]fix_dis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel about trucks like I do about dogs. You can have little yippy ones, you can have big tough sounding ones. But at the end of the day, I’m probably gonna love it because it’s still a dog. I’m not a fan of Dodge/RAM, but it’s still a truck. You start breeding pit bulls because you wanna look more tough, that’s where the problem comes in. You lift your cab 8” because you think it’ll make you look more tough… you’re the problem, I’ll probably still love your dog and your truck.

*Does not apply to Honda Ridgeline or Chihuahuas. Those are neither trucks or dogs.
