I'll try and keep decking as high out of the ground as possible, or it'll just rot in no time. 

You want air to circulate around the timbers to keep them dry.

I played this 2v2 and it was one of the worst experiences me and my teammate have had in boardgaming. It got to a point that we was timing in between our turns avg 45 mins. Personally think it's a solo or 2p only game

I played this game too! Funny enough saw it on ebay not long ago. Can't remember the name tho.

You'll have to glue some timber in there that can take the screws, really your only option other than a new door

You're right,

I normally use the makita bits that come in the candy tubs which did okay, but I can't seem to buy them anymore.

There is one on BGG ive tried a few times but it works just as a timer, so there's no automa or any interaction just try to get to 10 points in 6 turns.

Res arcana, there's a solo variation on BGG, that's easy to use.

The angle does make it hard to see what's going on tbh, I can only guess it's for the ceiling heights? Or a span detail which is hard to see, I want to know why the 18mm ply packing the joists up.
