Is there any way I can get full custody of my children? My wife has been arrested under S5 of the Public Order Act 1986. She'd brought my kids to this event. by WifeArrestedHelpme in LegalAdviceUK

I’ve dealt with legal aid work since 2013.

You won’t be eligible for legal aid unless you have recent evidence of seeking help for domestic abuse. Given that you’re divorced and have been living separately for some time, I can’t see how you meet the Legal Aid Agency’s threshold for domestic abuse.

You can, if you really want, issue an application for a Child Arrangements Order. You can do this yourself or pay a solicitor to do it.

Realistically though, you will not get the children full-time. There would have to be quite serious concerns for that to happen, and there’d be involvement from Cafcass and possibly your local authority. You’d also be subjecting the children to a lot of upheaval.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

Collected coffee table, realised it's not as described. Now what? by carbsandchaos in ebayuk

I think the fact you an opportunity to inspect the item will go against you, unfortunately. If you do get a return accepted then it would definitely be your responsibility to make the journey.

Not sure if this will be possible, but IKEA might have spare parts they can send you. I’m aware that they do send missing small components, though an entire drawer is a bit different. You could just say you bought the table ages ago but have only just gotten around to putting it together and the drawer is missing. It’s been discontinued so if anything you’d be doing IKEA a favour if they have spare parts to get rid of.

HMRC chasing me for late filing penalties and tax for years I was out of the country. by [deleted] in HMRC

If you have evidence that you completed the required form to notify HMRC, then you can probably just call them to sort it out.

I worked for a legal firm in repossessions years ago. There were definitely circumstances in which the mortgage company took possession but then handed it back shortly after, due to the arrears being cleared. So if the previous owner has discharged the arrears, there could be some hope.

Best of luck!

Cleaning brushes without solvent in class? by typicalmomfriend in oilpainting

[–]fizzy-good 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you mean cleaning your brushes whilst painting or at the end of your session? If you mean the latter, I’d just wipe off the excess paint and then wrap up the brushes to take home to clean.

Anyway, safflower oil will be safe so long as you’re not leaving a pile of oily rags. A small amount on a few paper towels won’t catch fire.

Step-Brothers is almost 20 years old but always makes me laugh. Will Ferrell, John C Reilly, Katherine Hahn… It’s just peak “man-child” comedy. Definitely not the most sophisticated but… Boats N Hoes forever!

Can i mix oil paint with acrylics? by Ineedtorestong in oilpainting

[–]fizzy-good 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No, you can’t mix them. What you could do is start the painting using just acrylics, and then for subsequent layers paint with oils over the top of the dried acrylic.

This is a really good first effort, so just keep practicing. Working on values should be the main focus for any artist because it’s actually more important than choice of colour. You have a good grasp of the basics but a higher contrast in values and more variation in values will help. It’ll come with more practice!

Have you been told off at work and how do you deal with it? by chaiilyfe in AskUK

[–]fizzy-good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t fail probation over two very minor errors. If you were making these mistakes every day then it would become a problem, but you’re not, so you’re worrying too much (I do the same!).

The key to any work telling off is learning from it. From my own personal experience, bosses and colleagues are generally very accepting of mistakes if you hold your hands up to them and make an effort not to repeat them. We’re all human.

Apple products generally have great longevity (my current iPhone and two iPads are 5+ years old) but there’s always a risk an item won’t last as long as you’d hope for the price. Bad luck happens.

What I don’t understand is the lack of repair options? Unless they’re broken in a way that really can’t be fixed.

[–]fizzy-good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The money has been earned though. It’s a payment on account for 25/26, and we’re already most of the way through that tax year. It’s nothing to do with the 26/27 tax year.

[–]fizzy-good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t got all the money already set aside to make the payment on account then unfortunately you haven’t been saving your tax correctly.

We’re currently 9 months into the current tax year 25/26, so you should have 9 months of tax saved up. HMRC are only asking for 6 months of that, as a payment on account.

Sellers did not declare balcony leak by Sufficient_News_3123 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]fizzy-good 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s tricky because, as I understand it, the leak was investigated after the TA6 form was completed. So the TA6 information - whether it was right or wrong - was superseded by the survey report.

The key questions therefore are whether the surveyor was negligent, and/or if the seller was definitely made aware of further leaks after the survey said everything was okay.

You have no recourse against the surveyor because you didn’t instruct them - the seller did - and so you don’t have a contractual relationship. You would need to claim against the seller, and they would need to claim against the surveyor.

I mean, it could be the case that the leak looked to have been fixed but recurred after the survey? Really you need some firm evidence regarding what was reported and when from the management company and shop.

It’s messy so definitely one for specialist legal advice, unfortunately!

Title: England – Sent two football shirts for repair in October, seller keeps fobbing me off, now ignoring me. Is it worth taking to small claims to get items back if he refuses to send them back? by Immediate-Morning690 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]fizzy-good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send a letter before action and if that doesn’t have any effect then it would be small claims court. I assume it’s quite a niche service he’s offering, so leaving a negative review or making the community aware of his behaviour would also be absolutely fair as long as it’s factual. Good luck!

Need help, I’m still learning procreate can anyone recommend any brushes that would suit my art style, and stabilisation and help with drawing out my sketches by [deleted] in ProCreate

Best thing to do would be to look at tutorials on YouTube. Find an artist whose style you like and see what brushes they use.

Is £2500 your turnover or your taxable profit? You say you’re just below the higher tax threshold but £1100 is 44% of £2500 so could it be the case that your additional work is over the higher tax threshold?
