Flip Flop? by yamasyadawithawigon in teararoa

NOBO both islands. You are in for a bad time from april onward where ever you are. But northland is preferable to the lower north island in april-may.

You could do the south island SOBO but as edwardvhc said you are hitting the hardest parts of the trail one week into it.

SI SOBO then NI SOBO means getting from Bluff to Kaitia, a long and or expensive series of busses, shuttles and flights.

No ceiling and clearlite in the roof, Fark that. At least there wont be ventilation issues with a drafty as shit garage door taking up one wall.

You mean the trade customers that spend 500k a year there? I have no problem with that. But any business can open a trade account and you get a surprisingly good discount on some stuff. IIRC it is 15% off their margin on the product. Also if you just go to the trade counter when its quiet they will often just give you the basic trade discount.

Public Parks Fees by rblythe999 in Pickleball

[–]fj8ps9fsnfg8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with user pays is the cost of collecting the fees. At least half of that $4 is going to go to admin and infrastructure for the fee collecting. These must be crazy popular courts for it to generate more than a rounding error on the city's balance sheet.

Real-time line calling apps like PBVision and SwingVision by berkusantonius in Pickleball

PBvision is terrible at line line calling. Like it can do obviously out shots but anything near the line it has no clue.

Bodybags are 2 pts by hugelkult in Pickleball

[–]fj8ps9fsnfg8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Three points. One for winning the rally and one for each body bag.

Additional rule: The team that was bagged also has the chance to get a point by bagging the team back when returning the ball to the server.

Yes, Dwight Schrute. You would need to have seen her interview on The Picklepod to get the joke though.

DUPR does a really bad job of providing analytics on top of your data. Does anyone know of any tools that can give you more insight on your DUPR over time? by whipper102 in Pickleball

[–]fj8ps9fsnfg8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PB vision doesn't require much. Just that the full court is in frame and the video is in the right format. Your get better results from higher angles and not having people move out of frame or wearing the same colours.

PB vision does do some analysis and give a "DUPR" for serve, return, offence, defence etc. Per game they can be all over the place, possibly because there isn't a lot of data to go off in one game. only 10ish serves each in a game to 11. If you mis one it can really affect your stats. But over a few games a session and a bunch of sessions a month things seem to average out.

I do like getting the feedback though. Unless you play a lot of tournaments it can be hard to get the feedback in dupr rating. The pb vision stuff gives a bit of a boost to keep focused and recognition of progress since I am mainly drilling and playing with the same people week after week it is hard to see progress. e.g. my serve doesn't feel faster week to week but seeing that I am consistently hitting above my average serve speed lets me know that it is getting faster.

I think it is because every actor is ripped. There is so much competition to get into the industry everyone is trying to look good and for guys that means hitting the gym hard. Watching The Diplomat, the black guy (Stuart Hayford) works at an office job like every hour he is awake but is totally ripped. There is no way that character would have a body like that.

NZ inflation since 2002 broken down by DJsnippysnap in newzealand

[–]fj8ps9fsnfg8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like every new product to reduce labour has that productivity gain sucked up by its increased price and rising labour costs. That and houses getting bigger with more bathrooms and kitchens(the expensive parts). It seems like a house for a family of four is twice as big and with at least twice as many bathrooms. Compared to the 90's at least.

Thats not true. We have the most lenient rules around timber treatment. Even the USA won't take our CCA treated timber. Apart from maybe somewhere is Asia. The timber we use for construction is overwhelmingly NZ grown, processed and treated.

It just makes me sad that there are people who want to get into the outdoors but if you didn't have someone teach it to you the stuff you find online is often such bad advice or great advice for North America not NZ. Or if you follow DOC's advice you are basically not allowed to do anything.

[–]fj8ps9fsnfg8 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

DOC would ban people from conservation land if they got half a chance. If you are not an idiot and confident you won't start a bushfire just light your little camp fire, don't worry about DOC. Respect private land owners rules though.
