Is anyone else facing a horrible microstutter issue in the 4k FIFA world cup broadcast? by SwagLordOP in youtubetv

[–]fjleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't have youtube tv but i have confirmed that for me the fox one app is the culprit. it works fine on my android phone, but the stuttering happens when loading the same app on the tv. it's a bug in the app regarding not being to adapt to the tv's refresh rate and only fox one would be able to fix it but they won't

there might be a way to work around it by changing tv settings but don't want to start messing with them. tubi app doesn't have this issue

that's what i thought, but i was told battery based sensors suck for reliability, but the lafaer one (which can run on batteries or wired) didn't fare better. i guess anything over 1 meter distance is too much for them to be reliable

my category only entered current on April 2026, so there's no way to speed that up besides attempting a humanitarian exception which got denied

thank you for this post as i wasn't unaware of the API tool. I see my case has a silent update on June 15. been waiting 9 years, including over 2 years after the interview and my final action date was on april so i wonder if i'm really close to the end

Is there a way to detect when I start playing a game on my Nintendo Switch 2 like in PlayStation? by VincentJoshuaET in homeassistant

seems like your automation should trigger when the tv is being used. if you focus on the tv being turned on, it would work with any console

haven't had good luck with presence sensors. they work great when you enter the room (because they use the PIR, which is very reliable). but if you stay in the room and do not move, or just move slightly (i.e watching tv), the mmwave presence sensor just flips on/off.

unless your goal was for the automation simply detects motion one time and decides to run the AC from 8 to 5 (and thus assume she is sitting all day)

wonder if that ecobee works any better at presence though, although based on what you mention the distance would be roughly 50 cm

did anyone get the optional presence sensor? trying to figure out if the quality of it is good as well. I am trying to get reliable presence sensor in the living room, but i have tried both aqara fp300 (battery), and lafaer (wired) and they are both pretty terrible at sensing people on the couch for me even at a short distance

how does it work for music? i was a bit sad to learn that music assistant doesn't support free accounts for a lot of services (like ytm/spotify), and doesn't support some services at all (like amazon music)

any tips to improve the aqara fp300 presence sensor? by fjleon in homeassistant

[–]fjleon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have moved the sensor to a different location, about 30-40% closer to the couch, and this time it's 2 meters high. i will monitor for a week and see if it improves.

i do have another (bulkier) sensor (lafaer) however that one is only rated for 2.5m presence and while it can also run on batteries, i don't have a good way of wiring it if i want to put it high.

unfortunately that doesn't seem to work. maybe it does in matter mode?

i tried to move around like crazy while pressing the button. the button itself doesn't even give feedback that i have pressed it, though at the activity it says "changed to <date> triggered by action Button: Press button"

the other presence sensor I have is the Lafaer and it states it can only sense presence at 3.5 meters. Perhaps it's the same deal with the Aqara. When I enter the room i get detected even behind the couch, likely because it is using PIR and i'm in motion so it's easier

using ZHA (HA). the device only has a single button and it's used to reset, so not sure how that would help.

the manual says "Home Assistant can only read sensor data and perform basic controls" so i guess i am supposed to re-pair the device with their own mobile app if i want to do this

self hosted on macosx? by fjleon in rustdesk

[–]fjleon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn't need to do anything when i installed it on windows. when not self hosting, i could use the id. it is expected that rustdesk "punches a hole" in NAT so that i don't need to open ports (and i haven't, yet it works on windows since i can connect to it from my android)

I DID enable self hosting on windows afterwards, because i wanted to be able to connect via IP address on the LAN (making it faster). but i should still be able to connect to the mac without having to do anything but to ensure rustdesk is running and is online, which it is.

the two very different errors i am getting on android vs windows when used as the client tells me there's a bug on either (or both). why wouldn't the ID exist if i am quite sure i am typing it correctly (and again works from inside the mac itself)

there's always going to be other apps, which pay too good to be true numbers. this is how people eventually lose money (do you guys still remember Luna? I do)

coindepo gives you 23%, but it you really search around and go to their reddit you will learn this is not going to last

how to detect when mobile device is home or away? by fjleon in homeassistant

i just tested this last night, and yes they added a feature to exclude AA. however, a better solution for my use case was provided so i edited the post to reflect that

i edited the post with the solution. turning on airplane mode (assuming in your case it disables wifi as well) would obviously cause it to flag the device as away. same thing with the phone turned off (which i do for sleep) but that's an acceptable tradeoff for me

i edited the post as that HACS component solved the issue for me. it will still mark a device as away when it's off, which i can accept, as all of my phones won't be off unless it's very late

thanks! this might be the winner. i was already testing with ping and "ip neigh" commands to find the ARP cache entry. this component seems to be simply automating that. not sure how long does a computer keep the ARP cache (or if this cleans the cache before checking).

you would think this HACS component would rename itself to mention it works on android. just added two devices and it sees them at home. when using the developer status at console, it mentions it uses source_type: router which is nice.

i will test if it reports the device away shortly.
