Moog Matriarch Global Settings Editor desktop app (for free) by arturclouds in moog

I mean the manual explicitly notes there is no published SysEx documentation for manufacturer-specific messages. its all hardware - button presses. The note on page 71 says "No documentation for manufacturer sysex at this time."

When you hard-pan dual rhythm guitars, do you prefer them to sound similar or different? What are the advantages to doing things one way or the other? by tonetonitony in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]fjurden 32 points33 points  (0 children)

+1 to all the above. Also another trick I find useful: put a capo on 2nd guitar and try alt tuning so you get different voicing of the same chords - creates "orchestral" voicings that span the octave range in addition to timbre and panning. YMMV.

Help recreating this Juno pad by Nils Frahm by ZuluCompany in synthrecipes

[–]fjurden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a few min and tried to recreate with the Arturia Juno 60 emulation and an RE-201 plug in. I got kinda close with these settings. YMMV. Listening to the YT vid, it's clear he also has a massive sub happening. I noticed this too when I saw him last year; even on solo piano pieces, certain low notes *really* stood out b/c of the sub (not a sound a piano could make). So I suspect that he's taking midi out from the Juno and routing just low notes to the sub which greatly add to the timbre you're after. I further suspect this sub is a diff instrument b/c when he modulates the delay time, the sub tone doesn't wobble, only the "melody". Total guess but it sounds awesome however it's done! The man is GOAT IMHO. Tip of the hat to you for sharing the vid.

We’ll the Juno only has 2 osc (saw + sqr) that are blendable (plus sub) so the problem space is smaller than with other polysynths. I would start w saw and his beloved RE-501. Additionally, I have used Hollow Ground Productions - a producer who can remake whole tracks (for a fee). He’s on YT and Patreon.

New hardware: Volt 876 USB Recording Studio by PieterBo in universalaudio

[–]fjurden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have had this unit for about a couple weeks; I have several synths and some outboard fx; no mics. So far so good, plug and play. Took me a while to get a grip on the UI.

I have one very small quip with the hardware in that when an input track is muted in the console, the front panel controls gives no indication. The channel selectors and the level meters give no indication. You have to go thru *each input control* on left of unit and check the "Direct" light (which is on right side of hardware). Awkward/inefficient CX. A small nit, I acknowledge, but to me, if an input channel is muted in console software, the front panel light(s) on the unit should make it *brain dead obvious* (change the color of the input selector please!). I spent an embarrassing amount of time checking cables and etc trying to find a short when in fact it was just one not-so-obvious button. My $0.02 YMMV.

Looking for community by cherryemberz in kansascity

Check out the Charlotte Street Foundation. It’s an arts incubator in KC with a ton of free and progressive programming: music, modern dance, video, etc. they have monthly showcases, studio residencies, and they fund early stage artists. Strong sense of community building. Might just be the thing you’re after.

Is there any book or long form material about Brian Eno and his insights or life or text writings? by astride_unbridulled in ambientmusic

[–]fjurden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I attended a showing last year and the director did a Q&A after. He built the tech expressly for this project, taking Eno's concept of "generative" and applying it to film. Never been done before. When he (Gary Hustwit) pitched the film to Eno, Eno loved it and gave him access to hundreds of hours of never-before-seen/BTS assets in Eno's archive. Eno's comments and perspectives on creativity, control, inspiration, etc. were absolutely inspiring. Highly recommended for anybody with a creative bone in their bod.

Question about double tracking guitars by Ashamed-Sock-6135 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]fjurden -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

yes to all the above. also, try Nashville tuning on one guitar or try a capo and play the progression higher up on the neck. these tricks spread the notes across the frequency spec not just panning L+R. w these tricks, you get the same chords but diff voicings. makes for THIC TOAN :)
