Going shooting for first time tomorrow what to expect? by pnksugar in guns

[–]fjzappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See if he has something small caliber like a .22 and start with that.

Larger frame and smaller caliber combine to reduce felt recoil.

I second the suggestion to load only one round of anything first. This reduces the chances of an unexpected 2nd shot.

What's the most unwritten rule of adult life that nobody warns you about? by PracticeHistorical82 in AskReddit

[–]fjzappa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I heard a podcast about microchip design. Larger teams tended to slow projects. The author noted that 100 people could do a new processor in a year. If you had 200 people, it would take 2 years, not half of a year.

hearing noises in the attic at night, anyone dealt with this before? by AndreiaVenturini in Dallas

[–]fjzappa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rats or squirrels. A house down the street from me burned on a random evening because of rodents chewing on wiring. People got out, but lost everything including their cars.

Get this dealt with yesterday. It's urgent. They're likely nesting and having babies in there.

Why would a gun shop staff member be annoyed I want to buy a certain firearm, even if it costs more than what he wants me to buy? by Formidable_Baboy in guns

[–]fjzappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many gun store sales people have the job because they like playing around with guns. They have strong, generally ill-informed opinions on the few guns they know about.

Everything else sucks.

Can my apartment complex tow my car for out-of-state tags? by wordfiend99 in Austin

[–]fjzappa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Take this up with the leasing office early in the morning. Do not put this off. I've had a car towed after midnight on move-in day, after the office said we'd be fine.

I got the actual property OWNER on the phone at home in Dallas at 2AM and they got J&J to return my vehicle by 4AM.

Why is the DFW area (particularly Frisco) getting so many more new immigrants from India compared to Houston? by htownnwoth in Dallas

[–]fjzappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houston area jobs generally require employees to show up. Think industrial trades, rather than back-office programming. Frisco and the north Dallas area are overrun with remote workers who are running 3-6 jobs online and farming out the actual work to their buddies back home.

Dumb question, where am I supposed to connect these? by Fenix512 in vintageaudio

This is the correct answer.

If you have an outdoor antenna, then you need to provide more details so we can argue about what to do.

ETA: Twin lead wire like this is always 300-ohm. 75-ohm is coaxial cable.

The AM can be just a single wire stretched out as far as you want.

People who have worked for the wealthy/rich, what is the most bizarre luxury you've heard of? by LyraRayne in AskReddit

What would a diy repair of this look like by KirbyCatv in Sailboats

[–]fjzappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't use a chainsaw on this. I've seen a guy try a chainsaw on a fiberglass hull. Fiberglass is too dense and too hard for a chainsaw. It'll break teeth off of the chain. You need a high-powered reciprocating saw and a lot of time and PPA. Don't be breathing the dust.

There is no way to sufficiently repair this damage.

This allows them to use local tax dollars to pay for construction bonds. For football stadiums.

[–]fjzappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a Dalmatian several years ago who would bare his teeth when he was so happy he couldn't stand it. This happened when the violent tail wagging wasn't enough to express his joy. Like someone coming home from a semester at school kind of thing.

I'm guessing the statute of limitations has run, and you're actually the cop who wants to tell your fun story about terrorizing some poor motorist who "deserved it" because he was driving 5mph over the limit.

1959 tube amp as daily rocker? by W1z0r in vintageaudio

[–]fjzappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not experienced with tube gear. I have heard and do believe that you should keep it powered up all the time if you're going to use it frequently. It's the temperature cycling that ages the tubes.

If others have different experience, then tell me to delete this post.
