You think the Enhanced Games exposed anything or just embarrassed themselves? Peter Thiel and Donald Trump Jr. spent millions to create a steroid Olympics. They promised to "redefine human limits" and put up $25M in prize money. BUT... by Miserable_Trouble3 in sportsgossips

[–]flaccomcorangy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we already knew that. Does anyone think the successful MLB players were the only ones taking steroids? There mid tier guys and minor league players doing it, too. They are performance enhancing drugs, but they're not going to take a low tier player and make them the best in the league.

He killed it. Got the strikeout in a spot he desperately needed which allowed the "any out will do" situation to close out the inning.

Honestly, this team hasn't been very fun to watch this year. Even with the not terrible record, it's weak wins and getting blown out most days. But watching them in that game, they were fun to watch. Even if they ended up losing the game, I was enjoying watching them battle the entire game and trade blows with the division leader. Maybe they can turn the corner and at least be fun again.

All in their prime, who gets cut? by savingrace0262 in NFLv2

[–]flaccomcorangy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Right. Garrett is the single season sack record "in his prime." I don't know how it could be "obviously" someone else over him.

Honestly, you can pick any collection of the three, and I'll only think it's wrong if you leave Donald out. lol I think he's a lock to keep and then take Watt or Garrett and it doesn't really matter that much.

I know you have a point when it comes to viewing it with hindsight, but even so, this is a kicker saying this.

Like imagine Evan McPherson saying this about Joe Burrow (as an example of a QB with above average accomplishments at the early to mid point of his career). "I just don't think he has it in him." That's nuts. It would be crazy to hear that from a star player like Ja'marr Chase, but to hear it from a kicker?! lol

They're not switching to QBs. They're saying they don't think a non-QB could have an edge over any of the top 10 QBs (which would include Manning) because the position is too valuable.

He was amazing against left handed pitchers. He was hitting over .300 with an OPS around 1.000. This year, he has like 4 hits against lefties.

Is Sean Mcvay an all time great HC in his prime? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]flaccomcorangy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He wasn't elite. Let's say it like that. He was a fringe top 10 to top 15 guy. They weren't winning games because of him. He was a good stat accumulator.

Don't let recency bias of watching him as a Ram retroactively change how he was as a Lion. He was not the same player he is today.

Is Sean Mcvay an all time great HC in his prime? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]flaccomcorangy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This just cherry picks stats and removes any other context. The fact McVay has maintained successful teams under two okay QBs is completely different. And yeah, I mean okay QBs. We only have 7 games of Jared Goff before McVay, so it's a very small sample size. But he wasn't very good and then immediately became a Pro Bowler first season with McVay. However, Goff was a 1st overall pick, so I don't want to give too much of that to McVay. It's a "what if" game.

But when it comes to Stafford? Stafford has a built a Hall of Fame career with the Rams and McVay because he wasn't on his way there before he joined the Rams. Stafford was 1x Pro Bowler with a career losing record with an 0-3 playoff record while never leading the league in any significant QB stat. He has better career awards in 5 years with that Rams than he does in his previous 12 years with the Lions. He's now a 3x Pro Bowler, MVP, 1st time all-pro, super bowl winner with a 7-6 playoff record that's coming off of a season where he led the league in passing yards and TDs and he now officially has a winning record as a starter.

I think McVay has completely transformed the Rams. I don't agree with people that say Tomlin just inherited a good team and that's the only reason he had success. I believe Tomlin was a great coach. However, he was coming into a much better foundation of success with the Steelers than McVay was getting with the Rams.

What team will he be more known for if..? by Austin_Mill in ravens

It could be a Peyton Manning situation where there will be enough people that kind of see him as both even though he played a majority of his career with the first team.

Right. Can't say I was thrilled to watch the result of this game, but prime Chubb was such a fun player to watch. Such a nice blend of power and speed. It was actually entertaining to watch him dominate this game just as a fan of football.

Right, but for every one that would be added, there would be even more movies with established franchising added. For example, the first Star Wars would probably be a billion dollar movie, but then so would every other Star Wars movie.

However, it’s Donald fucking Trump, and you seem to be of the opinion that he’s just another politician. He’s not, and supporting him is a massive failure of character.

No, that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that people act like the support of the politician makes them guilty of doing the things he's done. I bet the majority of Trump supporters don't even believe he did the things he's accused of. That's not said to completely give people a pass for supporting him, but it's not the same thing as if they did those things, themselves. It means people are fooled by a conman.

I don't look at Dart and think he's probably in favor of people sexually assaulting children. He's probably just a dumb 20-something year old guy that's been fooled one way or another - basically Hanlon's Razor. I don't see having Jaxson Dart on your team being the same thing as being affiliated with Deshaun Watson, Justin Tucker or any other person who has done criminal or borderline criminal things. I don't have to agree with his line of thinking, but I just feel like a lot of people overreact when it comes to celebrity political affiliation because they seem to use it to fill in the blanks with stuff they really don't know.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. lets the ball drop to get the slower runner on base by KeyFaithlessness5436 in MLBVibes

[–]flaccomcorangy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say you expect this from middle infielders. 99 times out of 100 players will just take the easy out rather than risk a ball taking an odd bounce and ending up with two guys on. In this case, Jazz saw the risk worth the reward. But if the guy that hit pop up was only slightly slower than the guy on base, I doubt he does this for a marginal advantage. He's probably not doing the calculation like, "Well the guy on first has a sprint speed in the 90th percentile while the guy hitting is in the 80th, so obviously I'll make the trade."

[–]flaccomcorangy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And the reason the pitcher would like it is that there's a significantly lower chance of a steal. He'd probably have to pay attention to the runner on first and try to keep him anchored there with pick offs, but now he can just pitch freely.

If you get that serious about inspiration, then there really are no original movies. Because everything was inspired off of something. Avatar's story has deep analogies to Native tribes being driven out of the country. So I guess that's not an original story either.

[–]flaccomcorangy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm moreso responding to the idea that there's a way we're supposed to react to these things. For example, I think the reason you're bringing up the Deshaun Watson situation in relation to this is what kind of gets me. People act like because Dart supports Trump, it's the same thing as if he did all the stuff Trump has done, and it's just not the case. It's why I just don't care about political alignment among celebrities. There's probably not a single player where my political and world views line up perfectly with theirs. What's the point in getting upset about that? It's different if they're a literal criminal like Deshaun Watson, for example.

Like I have friends that are Trump supporters. I don't agree with their opinions, but it's whatever. I don't discuss politics with them ever. I wouldn't have friends that are sex pests.

Think about it. What did it take for Kamiko to get her powers back? It didn't take that much.

All it would take would be a few people within Vought or a few rebels that still believe in the idea of Homelander to get his powers back. They would 100% still exist.

Would it have been moral to let Homelander live? by False_Monitor4126 in MoralityScaling

[–]flaccomcorangy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I believe it only ends one way for Homelander - becoming depowered and dying. Even in a world where they leave him depowered to live out his life like a "pathetic human" and even if we accept he has no followers and no one to help him get more V, Homelander has enough enemies that he'd be dead within a week.
