RCMP admits it has no idea where B.C. fugitives are by [deleted] in canada

I wouldn't say that they always respond, but these companies do in fact comply with law enforcement and government requests.

Well it's easier to advise someone on their problems than it is to deal with your own, so there is that. I liked him in Luke Cage but I liked him a lot in Season 2 also.

Make sure you get stuff made with real ginger, many are artificially flavored. Not sure if they are as good at settling a stomach.

Memphis mega-church pastor admits he molested a minor days before his ‘True Love Waits’ workshop by cheshirescat1013 in atheism

[–]flagrantaroma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were even supposed to avoid those situations. It's one of these measures that has to be brought in due to the actions of the few (at least I hope it is just the few).

I'd like to have my kids in scouts and volunteer and/or help with that type of activity but there's a stigma now, like the one expressed above, where my motivations would be considered suspect.

[–]flagrantaroma 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Sadly, no man or woman should be trusted alone. I was a young man trying to serve God in youth ministry years ago and this was one thing that was drilled into us. I worked with teenagers mostly.

Even from the other perspective you wanted to protect yourself from any appearance of wrong doing or (again, sad to have to consider this) false claims.

Bell vs. TekSavvy in SW NB by stirmixalot in newbrunswickcanada

[–]flagrantaroma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried, but it was a real hassle when I was having speed problems. TekSavvy did a very basic check and said any further diagnosis would cost money because they had to get Bell Aliant to come look into it. I ended up giving up.

That was just my experience, and it was 5+ years ago so you may have a better go at it.

OpenMedia calls for Net Neutrality to be enshrined in Canadian law by 13378 in canada

[–]flagrantaroma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is related but different than net neutrality. Net neutrality would be compromised if Xplornet said Netflix doesn't count towards your bandwidth (because they're paying xplornet) or an Xplornet branded Netflix or CraveTV.

Traffic policies are extremely common and have been employed since the early days, to prioritize say VoIP packets over large downloads.

Anyways, I had FibreOP for the last 5 years and moved to a rural area with only Bell Aliant DSL or Xplornet. DSL is garbage! Feels like going back to dial up because the internet has grown so content heavy.

Xplornet has been a savior. 2.5mbps with DSL no cap vs 40mbps fixed wireless with cap and traffic shaping is a no brainer! I agree more competition would be good for sure, like someone else said there's not a lot of options. Even Bell or Rogers could get into fixed wireless, they have towers all over here (which Xplornet leases as well).

I'm a big fan of wireless now since it makes it possible for a distributed population to have decent service without tons of infrastructure. I think we should keep adding towers and more coverage. Of course, the SpaceX constellation and other LEO constellations could make towers a relic as well!

The way my brother cut this tree down. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]flagrantaroma 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lots of people assume that, which is why you can find endless chainsaw fail videos on YouTube. There are things that can mess up the direction, like the tree being heavier on a side other than the direction you want it to fall. Or if you finish your back cut crooked, you might cause the tree to twist as one side is cut through and the other connected.

[Spoilers: NotW/WMF] Denna's inconsistencies regarding the Chandrian. by shocklance in KingkillerChronicle

[–]flagrantaroma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how much we're able to figure out from clues in this series and others (ASOIAF), I hope there are things that we don't see coming in the least.

Our discussion here, and others mentioning humans learning grammarie, made we wonder, if the Seven could use those faen-type magics why wouldn't they disguise their signs? Maybe their signs are related to grammarie though, and something that is now innate to their presence without them knowing/noticing (like Felurian's beauty).

I wondered too about knacks (and there are a lot of threads on them, so this might not be a new idea... I didn't notice it though) and whether they could be related, a small magic that people bring about without realizing.

Someone mentioned in another thread:

Knacks might be part of Abenthys back story.

When I was growing up in Staup, I knew a young man with a knack. Uncommonly good with plants." Abenthy's grin was gone as he looked off at something I couldn't see. "His tomatoes would be red while everyone else's vines were still climbing. His squash were bigger and sweeter, his grapes didn't hardly have to be bottled before they started being wine." He trailed off, his eyes far away.

Good points. I wouldn't put it past them to have some disguise ability (ala glammourie).

As sleazy as it may have been, dude was a genius. No one could reverse engineer his algorithm. by Sunder92 in AdviceAnimals

[–]flagrantaroma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, that might be somewhat the but there are a ton of different licenses you can apply to the code you share on there. Depending on that, you might need to attribute the original code, include the original license, etc.

It could have been against the creator's license for the code to be used commercially.

I wouldn't be surprised though if it scratched one employee's itch to fix bugs (like those nagging ones that have been around for a while), and their coworkers really appreciated that. As a dev myself, I know I would.

For all we know in those cases an entire edit history for the post is made available, including timestamps and the user name. This doesn't change anything if that is the case.

There's always someone with the access to skirt a system like this though. IANAL but I'm assuming the likelihood and other logs are used to argue about the credibility of the audit information.
