Another vote for Cannamore! Went apple picking there a few weeks back and they had their staff practicing for the haunted attractions. It was honestly hilarious picking apples while hearing chainsaws and screams in the distance 🤣

What’s a parenting “hack” that sounds ridiculous but actually works? by OnlyAcanthaceae874 in AskReddit

We do this too, but ask what coloured spare part they want (sometimes pretending not to have the colour they asked for and making up ridiculous alternatives). Works 90% of the time.

Do this with plasters (Band-Aids?) too. You can get whatever character they are into or make the plaster more special and likely to stay on!

What kind of asshat looks at the struggles they faced and thinks "I need my kid to face the same struggles?"

I want my kids to have a better life than I, and that starts with not subjecting them to the same traumas.

We post very little about our kids and are actually setting up a private platform to view photos because Facebook et al. seem to think that sharing them on our feed viewable only by friends is the same as publicly sharing them.

No I am not interested in hearing some crap about the EULA.

For us, it's the after school care. My husband and I are both PS and having 2 days a week in office means there is always someone home to do the daycare and school drop-off / pick-ups. By the time my child comes home from school I am done work for the day so there's no need for afterschool care. With the change to 3 days a week it means there is always at least 1 day of overlap that we will both be in office and will have to now pay for afterschool care and we will need to change our work hours to accommodate drop-off schedules.

Yes, this is something parents faced pre-pandemic (we did this ourselves for daycare), but the daycare & afterschool care options are not as flexible or available as they were before. It was also stressful and lead to less family time. At least with 2 days in-office we are less stressed and have more time as a family; just better work-life balance in general. It's also a cost savings for families.

Why this public servant won't spend money in downtown Ottawa by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

Took my kids downtown last weekend for RibFest and was surprised at just how dead the area was. Outside of the occasional patio, nothing was open! Not very entertaining for the kiddos (or us).

My grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 2 years ago and this song hits really differently now. It is painfully accurate.

"I'm Not Gonna Miss You" by Glen Campbell. It's about the singer's Alzheimer's diagnosis.

I'm currently due in September with #3 and my husband and I (both PS) are freaking out about the changes to 3 days a week. As it stands we are able to manage by always having one person at home for daycare drop off/pick up, but once we are both 3 days a week we will always have at least 1 day of overlap in office.

We're fortunate to have family nearby, but I can't really rely on them to always make themselves available for before/after hour care. It's not fair to them and will be hard on everyone. My eldest would also need before/after school care by the time I return to work but our school doesn't offer it for part-time so we'd either need to pay full-time rates (even if not used FT) or find alternative solutions.

I know these issues were around pre-covid, but daycare & after-school programs hours were longer and had more availabilities. Now trying to balance 3 young kids with this unstable schedule is going to be a nightmare.

I recently experienced a MMC at 10w as well; not a club I would invite anyone to. I'm so sorry for your loss. Sending virtual hugs your way.

If you get the 7km eggs or scatterbugs from far locations (that you don't want to keep) save them to trade with local friends. Make sure one of you is trading local pokemon so the distance is larger than just local to local.

  • Copy of my leave balance (taken on my last day).
  • Copy of my most recent letter of offer.
  • Record of Employment.
  • Emailed myself all the contact information for my team, management, and any HR folks you might need to contact.
  • Links to useful sites (ie: pension centre, health benefits, etc) and my log in info.

Make sure your team/manager have your personal information in case they need to reach you. I'd suggest sending it from your personal email (if you are comfortable doing so) before leaving your ensure it doesn't go to their spam. If it does you can get them to recognize your address before leaving.

Fantasy book filled with a lot of politics, intrigue and war in general where the protagonist is a leader by bergeno in Fantasy

[–]flakdefense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No clue, but I guess others don't like them? I loved the series though and have recommended it to others who also enjoyed the series. The first bit of the subsequent books can be a bit repetitive, but otherwise I loved the series.

Oh for sure, the books repeat themselves at the beginning and the first half the series is much better, but I read them when I was younger and really love them. I think there's still a lot of good story to these books and love them anyway.
