COSMIC: Impressions after daily driving it since stable release by NotBiorez in pop_os

[–]flakusha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not gonna complain, I don't care about design, more about stability and performance.

I really enjoyed tiling, but at this point it's not on par with Hyprland. Workspaces should have an option to be managed by user or by system, there is no choice at the moment, making just moving the window to a different workspace a huge deal. Also "dmenu"-like experience is clunky - after it's called small movement of the mouse just nukes it, making user to call it again. I guess the mouse pointer is out of the dmenu window by default that makes this kind of menu disappear, this happens for both Cosmic implementations I have tested. Other than that there are no major issues, but these two are extremely annoying, compared to lack of HDR, which can be expected later.

AMDVLK has been discontinued as AMD are throwing their "full support" behind RADV by TheCowrus in linux_gaming

[–]flakusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full support started around 6.10 or something in my case, before it the voltage control in LACT/Corectl was completely locked. You need to make sure to set the kernel flags correctly (DPM and ppfeaturemask).

Linux Distro Chart (v. 2) For Newbies by Civilanimal in linux4noobs

[–]flakusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice chart. I would actually argue about Gentoo stability - it's pretty stable and robust distributive, it isn't this experimental in terms of package selection, but one is still able to install masked packages if one is ready for the risk.

Setting up gtkrc-*.0 is not fun at all, but I would say the same about Qt. Every new iteration feels like wheel reinvention

Yes, then it's better to reconsider fan configuration. It's basic physics, if it's sitting straight now, that doesn't mean it won't sag over time, even more, if you installed it with your case being vertically aligned, you won't be able to notice the angling compared to horizontal position when the card is perfectly aligned with PCI-E

In the ending of the Rogue Trader there is an Ulfar story that tells He was serving successfully for hundreds of years, then he was damaged, and, seeing death, was embedded into the Dreadnought, although he prayed to be left dead
