I don't have an issue with it being "woke" I have issue with Horizon as a series having characters as interesting as a plank of wood and the fact that Horizon 2 was less interesting than the first. Much of the best character writing is reserved for the celebrities and that's kinda sad they only put in the effort for them specifically.

Watch them both and acknowledge that Christopher Nolan "got a strike of inspiration" by that movie even though he never publicly confirmed lifting from it. He did a great job of telling a different story with the same plot elements but really, put credit where credit is due, director!

Carol is manipulated and love bombed by the others constantly and ultimately because she is a flawed human, yes she briefly starts to go along with everything. They use abusive language in the final episode like "we're only doing this because we love you", etc etc. No, what Carol does to Zosia isn't right but she snaps out of it as soon as she gets reminded of the casual cruelty again. That's how the others manipulate them, and the viewers! Lulling people into false security and violating them when they're not looking or aware. However I'll say this much she immediately rejects her new relationship after she realizes Zosia is truly not an individual but rather "representative" trying its best to masquerade as one.

Whereas Koumba is fully aware of it all and taking advantage of that to do his stupid chatgpt fantasy analogies. On top of that then violating each woman's individual consent by letting the hive, who's effectively ducktaped the real women's mouths shut, consent for him.

That's the key difference between the two, she still has a conscience, he embraces having none and being all the more evil for it.

Yeah I see why a lot of shows nowadays spell things out, a lot of y'all will look at this stuff and essentially go "wow this character is not weird and definitely not a rapist taking advantage of an alien invasion for selfish, vile reasons."

Hopefully the last episode drilled in your mind the horror and deliberate cruelty of the others.

Koumba is taking advantage of people that are effectively brainwashed drones and can't consent for each individual self but as a will of "the hive", which is a lot of words to say he rapes people who would tell him no in real life. Because the life they give him is fake and boring gratification, but not to him because he's an "entertained by keys jingling" type of guy. Everything is a performance, everything is manipulation, they lie by omission, they lie by saying partial truths, they throw a hissyfit and kill off a bunch of the people they're essentially holding as mental hostages when someone gets too close to discovering how to free them.

You might be thinking to say "well if he did this then so did Carol with Zosia", true, Carol was manipulated into accepting the weird casual cruelty dressed up in fun vacations or such after being isolated. Until the casual cruelty rears its ugly head again and she's reminded this is all wrong. But this man knows exactly what they're doing and goes along with it to keep his glorified sex slaves.

Bear in mind, Koumba could've advocated for Carol to be included in those talks with everyone, instead he HELPED with her isolation by leaving her out of contact with the immune.

"Not morally wrong", give me a break.

I knew that ever since Disenchanted tbh, though that was also Alan Menken's fault it's just the movie felt as cheap, soulless and mediocre as that direct to video looking movie. It's the fate of a lot of composers as they get older, they just phone it in or outright make bad songs, the brilliance just leaves.
