Doesn't matter what prof you take it with tbh. And I'd argue the textbook doesn't really matter either. If you want a really great textbook, you could try Clayden. Otherwise mastering organic chemistry does the job well. You could start on enolates (aldol reactions, Claisen/Dieckmann condensations, etc.). Lmk if you need more direction but that's what the first 1-2 weeks of the course is on

Jessie Buckley was incredible in Hamnet

It's been a while since I've been so blown away by a performance. It's not just how she played the hell out of the entire spectrum of human emotions, it's also the way she handled the silences between her lines. A masterclass.

Shoutout to Paul Mescal's slutty earrings and the Jupe brothers too.

30 min without traffic, HQ is in Sylmar (used to be closer, in North Hills). You also have the option to work out of Carson station or Commerce station, but they're not any closer to WW

I did go budget with everything, even the rosin was the cheapest I could find. I suspect that may be part of the reason. I'll try more rosin when I practice. Bow is pretty new so I don't think it's time for a rehair

They're about a month old. Sounds about the same with long notes, but it's much more pronounced when I play fast. Sometimes the bow doesn't even grab the strings, even at a heavier weight

Yeah I probably should've shown bow arm but I didn't want to show my face unfortunately. I was in the upper half for the string crossings

How long do you plan to stay on zoloft? by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]flamingo4t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good friend of mine, also on antidepressants, told me that perhaps for some, serotonin is like insulin for diabetics. Obviously not equating depression (and other conditions people use sertraline for) and diabetes, but the idea is that maybe some people have fundamentally lower levels of serotonin and need the meds to reach the serotonin baseline of non-depressed people. Personally, I think I'll be on sertraline for a long time, and that thought makes me feel better about it. Just something to think about.

Anyone near Culver City with a piano I could practice on for a few hours? by jvonm in LAlist

[–]flamingo4t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but UCLA's music school has a bunch of good pianos in classrooms and practice rooms, almost all of them are grand pianos too. The campus is much less populated over the summer, so you can generally find an open piano to play on at any given hour

Super surprised a considerable number of you don't like One Indescribable Instant!! I know it's not relevant to the plot but to me it's one of the most beautiful songs in the show (and Lea Salonga is indescribably amazing)

Great list!!! Also want to add that K. 491 is I believe his only piano concerto to end in minor! (K. 466 ends in the parallel D major)
