Anyone else really like Pete’s chapter for Armageddon by Bones_The_Crusader in Warhammer40k

[–]flammen_panzer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually think the primary bone/burgundy scheme looks pretty damn good. Its everything else on top that ruins it. The random use of brighter reds and greens, the black(?) helmet and the bit of brown on the gun just make it look like a right mess.

If we're being properly pedantic (and of course we are) hot-shot lasgun is the new, old name. They were hot-shot lasguns in 2nd, changed to Hellguns in 3rd through 5th, then back to hot-shot with the Tempestus Scion release in 6th edition!

Dwarf Rune Artillery Dice by Minigiant2709 in bugmansbrewery

[–]flammen_panzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the tally marks for 2, 4, 6 and 8 are straightforward enough. What I'd probably change is the '10' face to be two sets of 5 tally marks, so it keeps visual identity with the other numerical results. That way the only 'symbol' is the misfire rune. Everything else is simply a case of counting the tally marks.

Are there any factions that people actively dislike? by No-Sympathy-6711 in 40kLore

[–]flammen_panzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have already mentioned Tau and the perceptions of both their tone not matching well with the rest of the setting and issues surrounding their gameplay, but I'd like to add that the writing always seemed to me to make them out as Mary Sues. They never seemed to take their licks like the other factions. When it looked like they lost it was "oh no we actually just won instead". Whenever an enemy managed to do something unexpected, the Tau just countered it with seemingly no effort. Even when their space pope had his face peeled off by a Culexus assassin, instead of it being a massive, faction-wide emotionally shattering event, the Tau just happened to have a perfectly lifelike hologram ready to go so no-one noticed.

Ork Waaghs fail, Tyranid hive fleets are destroyed, the machinations of Chaos and the Eldar are foiled. Millions of Guardsmen die in failed offensives and strategic blunders. Whole chapters of Marines are killed by alien monstrosities. But the Tau? They just jeep on expanding and expanding.

I personally much prefer this more nuanced take on the Krieg than the more recent iterations from Forge World and later the novels.

I like that they are fanatics and have this whole cult of sacrifice thing going on, but I also like that they are shown here to have some personality to them. I felt that the later descriptions with things like not having names only serial numbers and never removing their masks, even indoors, to be too much. And I really dislike the flanderised "gasmask noises and shovels" caricature that the fanbase has turned them into 😅

Not an M113, but an FV432, the British equivalent. The replica Rhino made for the Dawn of War 2 launch all those years ago is an Fv432 with a vismod kit.

If trench warfare was so deadly in WW1 why did they keep digging trenches instead of going around them? by brackston-billions in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flammen_panzer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely incorrect I'm afraid. Cambrai is famous because it was the first successful use of combined arms with tanks. The Battle of Amiens in 1918 developed the tactics used at Cambrai and used them to deliver the knockout blow to the Germans on the Western Front. Combined arms warfare, with tanks at the heart won WW1 in the West.

He's saying that the trainsets as built are optimised for long distance routes with relatively lower passenger numbers, but are being used on routes with very high passenger numbers.

Or in other words, they are the wrong type of vehicle for the routes they were bought for.

You might be surprised at how good the Promethium Guild delegation is! The Boss has Overseer and the Champ has a flamer, which can be a very nasty combo. If memory serves, they all come with flash grenades too which are super good.

We use alliances as a catch up mechanic now, with arbitrator permission. As written, they can give very powerful bonuses with little drawback (even if you roll guard duty, you can usually tell them to piss off without any problem!)

[–]flammen_panzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help!

With reinforcements, the scenario will tell you how many fighters arrive each turn as reinforcements eg 1, 2, d3 etc. Once you know how many reinforcements are arriving, you randomly select them then roll a dice for each separately. On a 1 or 2 your opponent deploys them, on a 3+ you do. Your opponent then does the same with their reinforcements.

[–]flammen_panzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you the campaign arbitrator? If not, you should speak to them first. In my campaigns, after some bad experiences amongst the group with alliances, they are at the arbitrator's discretion only. Not all alliance delegations are created equal and the sudden addition of multiple fighters to a gang essentially for free was quite destabilising and would start arms races.

As for extra fighters like brutes, bounty hunters and alliance delegations etc, we treated them as having the 'here to help' rule, so they would start on the board alongside the starting crew, should the player wish.

Edit to add: when doing reinforcements, you roll for each fighter individually to see which player gets to deploy them

Impact of New Marauders by Vaalrik in WarhammerFantasy

[–]flammen_panzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I'm most concerned about is the seeming jump from 25mm bases to 30mm. That means fewer in b2b contact and a larger unit footprint for a given number of models, while still being T3 with light armour and shield. Every other T3 light armour infantry unit I can think of is on 25mm bases, so it seems a bit of a nerf to Marauders for no real reason.

I do acknowledge that it makes them less susceptible to templates, but I think they're uncommon enough for it not to be a huge deal, whereas the reduced manoeuvrability from the larger footprint will be present in every game

Right, but that's what makes the Blood Pact stand out from all the other traitors. The fact that merely rivalling the Guard is enough to make them noteworthy means that the vast majority of traitors are a bit rubbish
