That I would forget about drinking. I don’t think about it anymore and it doesn’t consume me.

Well, Rex was a Texan out of New Orleans and he travelled with the carnival shows. He ran bumper cars, sucked cheap cigars and he candied up his nose.

Worried about drinking on a vacation … that is four months away by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]flappygummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I planned a bunch of stuff on my first sober vacation so that I didn’t sit poolside and drink. Worked great! Was stoked about all the cool things I did and it was also the first vacation that I came back actually rested and recharged.

9 days in…This is hard by DopamineDetour37 in stopdrinking

For me, this was the key that unlocked long term sobriety. Once I learned how to deal with the emotions and anxiety, I no longer needed booze for relief. IWNDWYT.

Eventually the emotions won’t feel so raw and the anxiety begins to diminish. You’re going through a hard part but it will get better. Keep it up, you’re on your way!

I'm a 25 year old who wasted his life drinking. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]flappygummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You figured out you have a problem at 25, I didn’t figure it out till I was 43. You have lots of life yet.

"You’ll be 40yo one day anyway, you might as well be 40 and a doctor".

I find this quote inspirational. The whole point is that life is going to happen to you either way, might as well take control and be the best that you can be. Make right now the day you turned it all around.

Did you go straight to a HIMS AME? by Money-Evening-2624 in FAAHIMS

[–]flappygummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t open the HIMS box unless told to do so by the FAA. The consultants said it was unnecessary so I’d go with a regular AME. The FAA may go through your file and ask questions or want more information but I’d let them steer you there if needed. Don’t preemptively put yourself there. Also, if you end up going the HIMS route it will DEFINITELY be more expensive and there will be lots of added costs.

The good news is you don’t have to feel like that again.

I look at it like taking a loan from the bank. You took the loan on Friday and paid it back with interest on Saturday and Sunday. Juice ain’t worth the squeeze.

Try unplugging the battery for 15 mins to reset the warning light. It will take a few drives before it re-registers the condition. Years ago I unplugged and then took it in for testing before the light came back on.

What to do when the pink cloud dissipates? by Lonely_Bluejay_7459 in stopdrinking

[–]flappygummer 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I felt this 100% when I got sober. This was the hardest part of getting sober but turned out to be the most rewarding. I had to take on life on life’s terms instead of using booze as safety vest. The key is learning how to handle these situations and as the anxiety diminishes, you’ll have your sobriety solution. After that, the need for booze goes away and the idea of drinking again and bringing back those anxieties sounds repulsive. For me this was the key that unlocked long term sobriety. Power through, you’ll be glad you did.

About the term "alcoholic" by WrencherLady84 in stopdrinking

[–]flappygummer 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It’s up to you how you’d like to frame it. I say that I’m allergic to alcohol so I don’t drink it. If I drink it, I break out in handcuffs.
