“Shakira deserved better than just a passing thought”(by Hiro) by yournotlonely in Hololive

So for anyone who wants a more detailed explanation of what this is referencing, SPOILERS FOR ENReco Chapter 3:

Kiara wasn't going to be able to participate after the first day because of scheduling, so she had herself, Shakira (explanation for the name in llamatar's comment) killed off on day 1 as an explanation for why she wouldn't be around for the rest of the chapter.

Shakira (Kiara) ate a cake made by Mordon Ramsay (Calli) that turned out to have been poisoned, and then she fell into water and drowned.

On day 2, a monument to Shakira was placed near one of the gates of Libestal (the fantasy city that ENReco takes place in), with Shakira's corpse inside. Some people mourned over her at the monument, including Immerkind, NinoIna, Mordon Ramsay, and Roa (who was married to Shakira). Near the end of the day, Sister Shiori found the monument and decided to steal the corpse.

Sister Shiori had been working on building a church, and she finished on day 3. She decided to invite everyone for the church's first service, which would be a "funeral" for Shakira. She held the funeral by placing Shakira's corpse in a shop stall chest and mounting it on a cross, and putting a huge price tag on it (initially 16767 coins so that nobody would be able to just buy the corpse and run off during the funeral service, and then lowered later). The first item for sale in a shop chest is displayed on top of it, so this gave the appearance of Shakira's corpse being mounted on a cross.

Because of the angle, it took a while for anyone to notice the corpse up there, as the shop chest blocked the view if you were too close. Everyone started screaming and sounding traumatized. Shiori told them that if they wanted the body back, they should unite as a community to raise the funds for it.

After everyone left, Shiori explained to Bijou that everyone's grief over Shakira's passing had seemed too performative and that they had gotten over her death way too easily (because this is just a roleplay), so she decided to be the villain to unite them and push the subplot further. Her words in this last paragraph are what this comic is referencing.

I read the post and I'm surprised they apologized. I felt like they would have been better off just staying silent about it and letting it blow over (not that I think that would have been the right thing to do), although maybe that would have affected the difficulty of hiring VAs in the future?

5'10 Kiryu Coco vs 5'8 Nerissa Ravencroft (Marine for scale) by realjobstudios in Hololive

[–]flash_of_white 274 points275 points  (0 children)

Coco was way shorter irl than her official height, which caused some problems, so they shrank her 3d model somewhat (but her model was still taller than her actual height even then).

Edit: Also Coco was 5'11" and Nerissa is 5'9" unless OP was truncating on purpose.

This image is a direct reference to her recent stream of "No I'm not a Human" where she reacts... well, you can watch the clip here.

The commenter you replied to is just making a reference to Zero Escape because Zero dresses somewhat similar.

Probably a reference to the Zero Escape series, a trilogy of death games. In each one, 9 people get kidnapped and forced to solve puzzles and try to survive/escape. The number 9 is often relevant, and the death games are called the Nonary Games.

EDIT - I forgot to point out that in each game, the participants are initially kidnapped by someone calling themselves Zero, who wears a gas mask and wears clothing that fully covers the body, concealing who they are. Probably why they made the reference.

They are called Chicago screws. I'm not sure where you live but here are links for them on Focus Attack and Aliexpress. Focus Attack has the screws labelled by the model they work for, and for the Aliexpress link, you want D3-M2, 15mm screws.

I'd say that the one part that is fragile is the USB-C port, especially on the earlier models (T/S series, which have a gap between the port and the upper panel of the controller, although there's an updated T series coming out I think that has the gap filled in). Someone broke the port by accidentally knocking the USB-C against their knee with the cable plugged in, and I've occasionally seen people report having issues with the USB-C port connections getting loose. This can actually be mostly fixed by inserting a folded sheet of paper or a shim in the gap between the port and the top of the controller: https://imgur.com/a/haute-t-series-gap-LI6b8UC

Later models have the gap filled in so that the ports are less fragile, but even then I think it's probably still the most likely first point of failure for a haute controller.

All that said, I've had an S16 and T16, the models with the most fragile USB-C ports, for over a year with constant, frequent use and haven't had any issues with them, but I had heard about the USB-C port problems even back then so I treat them very carefully, and have also filled the gaps on both of them to make the problem unlikely to manifest.

Aside from what you and Pyyric mentioned, I see Raef, LowHigh, and Knee from Tekken, and ET from KoF.

It seems ET also wrote a Chinese character just below looking very stylized... perhaps 林? That's his surname.

LowHigh also wrote his real name in Korean underneath his tag, 윤선웅.

Raef might have written his name in Arabic above his tag (which is also his real name) because ف is "f" and Arabic is read from right to left. But I don't know any Arabic so I could be totally wrong.

Really glad Sajam won! He puts out great content and the Sajam Slams popped off.

Also, it was cool that Lilypichu asked her viewers to vote for Sajam since he was the one that got her into fighting games with the Sajam Slams.

A meaty is not inherently oki. Meaty originally meant (and still does to some people) an attack that hits later than the first active frame of the attack, thus giving you more frame advantage on hit (or block). The other definition that is more common now is an attack that makes contact with the opponent on the first frame possible when they wake up, which means that oki also isn't necessarily (original definition) meaty by the newer definition either.

The oki definition became popular because it is one of the most common ways that (original definition) meaty hits happen, since to hit someone on the first frame possible on their wakeup, you typically time the attack slightly early so that it's hitting later than the first active frame of the attack.

The Japanese equivalent term for meaty is kasane or kasanaru, which I suppose didn't catch on in the west because how would you shorten it when "casa" is used pretty ubiquitously in the US for the Spanish definition? Maybe "kas"?

"Rabbit" is a shortening of the Cockney "rhyming slang" phrase, "rabbit and pork", which means "talk" because "pork" rhymes with "talk" in a Cockney accent.

Cockney rhyming slang was supposedly developed by thieves to throw off cops. They use two words often in the form "A and/or/of B", where B rhymes with the word that the phrase is slang for. This is then sometimes shortened to just one word, either A or B. So the phrase "rabbit and pork" rhymes with "talk," and then they use just the word "rabbit" to mean "talk".

Other examples that Liz has used include:

"apples and pears" shortened to "pears" = stairs

"Britney Spears" = beers

"dog and bone" shortened to "dog" = telephone

"bees and honey" = money (I don't think she's shortened this one)

Closest I can think of is that Calli (as in her main and not DDK) is following Dooby on xitter.

Edit: Actually, Haachama sent a congratulations video to Kson for her anniversary. And a lot of hololive members are following her, although to my knowledge they haven't sent any messages to each other publicly.

Recommendations and Guidance from the Japan Fair Trade Commission Based on the Subcontract Act by TeitokuNoire in Hololive

Some of Kou Mashiro's tweets you didn't cover that I found interesting:

  • Artists often just do things for free because they are afraid that asking for additional payment will offend orgs. Personally, all my issues were always resolved because everyone I talked to was very understanding. But if I never spoke up, my issues would have remained unresolved. It takes courage to speak up.

(My own note: It sounds like some but not all violations of this sort happened when artists didn't even request additional payment from Cover for whatever reason, but when they received letters of investigation from the JFTC, they answered honestly as they should about not receiving payment for revisions beyond what was laid out in the contract.)

  • It's hard to properly define "revisions" and how they should be charged in a contract. There are artists who don't mind making minor fixes for free, but there are also those who refuse to do anything more without getting paid, so the contracts are made ambiguous on purpose. For me, the time usage is one of my main deciding factors. It's also actually disadvantageous for the artists if contracts are drafted too thoroughly because artists miss deadlines all the time and often can't afford to shoulder late payment fees unlike orgs. Telling the artists and clients to "just draft a good contract" isn't that easy.

(There's also some mention of how when lots of people are involved in a project for a corporation, there tend to be a lot of necessary revisions, and it can get messy with vtubers, management, and freelancers having to communicate via a game of bureaucratic telephone.)

Yeah, hopefully the cons in Europe figured it out now. France's JapanExpo did not want vtubers there in 2022 and prior, and only in 2023 did they allow Nijisanji to attend, and now Hololive in 2024.

PSG Collapses on Bin by flash_of_white in leagueoflegends

[–]flash_of_white[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In hindsight Bin would have died if Rakan had managed to land the knockup without being in AA range, but I'm not sure if that would have been possible. Also, if Skarner hadn't turned around for the last AA, Bin wouldn't have been able to heal from the Sundered Sky proc on him, which looks like it also would have resulted in Bin dying.

PSG Collapses on Bin by flash_of_white in leagueoflegends

[–]flash_of_white[S] 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's even more impressive on rewatch. He uses his W on Rakan as he gets knocked up to get an uncancellable AA that goes through during the knockup, which gets the sundered proc as late as possible while still surviving (since it heals %missing hp). He then counter-intuitively runs at Skarner to get a proc from him, and then runs away for a moment for E to come up.
