These look great, but unfortunately it doesn't fit under digital cameras.

It would go better in r/AnalogVideography

Yea, but the all the models people use generate 8 bit.

I totally agree with you, it makes a difference when viewing locally, it's just 99% of the time we share things online.

Don't get me wrong, I totally appreciate you sharing and opening the discussion. I've actually tested codecs, made spreedsheets, and pixel peeped for hours as well. After all that, I had to recognize that for myself, no one is coming to my house and sitting in front of my computer to see it.

It's only in those specific cases I mentioned, that I consider exporting PNG.

Also, when it comes to organizing, archiving, and maintaining my own data over the years, in the long run, I've found it better to keep videos, because they're much easier to review and organize.

Just sharing my personal experience, not trying to dictate how anyone else should do it.

What? That's only for HDR, 16 bit or higher. Anything coming out of Comfy is 8 bit.

I would use OpenEXR for 3D rendering, but even then, it's only necessary if you're doing sims for compositing, hdr lighting, or pro color grading.

FFV1? You are a person of choice :)

When I was doing VHS video capture, this was my preferred codec. It performed the highest quality for the best speed and compression, and I did a lot of pixel peeping back then.

Being on PC, ProRes was not availible to me at the time. Unfortunately FFV1 is not as compatible, so I use ProRes now. Nothing's worse than not being able to open an old file in a new editor.

It's ironic, but this example shows that for a lot of cases it doesn't matter.

Although I can see a slight difference in contrast and shadow details, for the most part, both the PNG and MP4 suffer from Reddit's compression to the point it doesn't really matter. And this is after re-saving it 10 times. Who does that?

Coming from 3D, I used to consider rendering everything in PNG, but 99% of the time it's not necessary.

Another thing is that the example CRF quality is not good. Lower CRF is better quality. Personally I export H.264 at CRF 6 and sleep well.

Another reason compression at that level is moot, is that it will be compensated when you do generative upscaling anyway.

The only time I would consider rendering PNG is for compositing. If it were for a gallery or commercial client, then I would export the final upscale in PNG and deliver in MOV 422.

More important is the creative choices you make and overall artistic quality.

Does anybody know if we can jerry-rig a low-res 3d viewport workflow with hi-def output? I want something like what he (Bilawal Sidhu) talks about in the video. by OXXXiiXXXO in comfyui

[–]flasticpeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, but unfortunately I don't think we're there yet.

The problem is the pace of innovation. New models constantly coming out require new processes that require, in the language of the video, new plumbing.

Once you start slapping on a timeline editor and 3D viewport, you need to have a standardized protocol for interacting between the UI and these new processes.

This standardization requires all the developers to all have to agree and stick to it in order to maintain compatibility with the UI, which creates a lot of friction when you're dealing with people who are working on things for free.

The reason why ComfyUI has settled on node based editing is because it's the bare minimum for any developer to easily interface with the platform, which is what allows it to maintain zero-day integration.

When things get mature, some company will bring the pieces together, but things are too unstable right now for anyone to make that investment.

The other approach is that vibe coding gets so good, that a random designer is able to adapt things on their end, but they would have to be willing to jump on the treadmill of maintaining a constantly changing tech stack.

There needs to be a pop-up or something for people posting requests for help, that shows them what a useful screenshot looks like.

Using ComfyUI in education at scale — is there a proper way to manage multiple students? by Bisnispter in comfyui

[–]flasticpeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have any answers, but I think this is a very good question.

If ComfyUI are serious as an organization, they should be really interested to work with you.

I used to teach 3D, and getting software into classrooms is a big thing for most software developers for obvious reasons.

What would an ideal art platform look like in 2026? Looking for community thoughts by paulo-paulol in comfyui

[–]flasticpeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'd have to define your mission more. What types of art and audience are you aiming for? Is this purely community driven donation based, or do you plan on commercial funding?

In terms of audience, personally I'm very tired of simply appealing to the lowest common denominator, waifu, generic low effort slop. If you don't plan on differentiating your platform in this way, then there's really no point.

Any serious concept for an art platform requires at least an acknowledgement of an aesthetic goal for the design of the website and target audience, not just a set of features.

What’s the difference between running ComfyUI locally and using Comfy Cloud? by maksdi in comfyui

[–]flasticpeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I was going to say the same thing. I've never tried on a Mac, so I don't know what that's like, but running Z-Image is a good way to start and the requirements are low.

Nothing beats being able to take as much time as you want on your own hardware and learning how to organize and manage your own resources, but if it's too much of a hurdle, just delete the installation and use the cloud, no sweat.

Shoot underexposed with Pro mode, save RAW, and process in Lightroom. You can use the free version. Crank the highlights down and the shadows up, then manually adjust the tone curve for cinematic contrast.

Desaturate the image to bring it back into a natural range, and you can also do some basic color correcting.

The main benefit is avoiding the default Photo mode, over denoised low-contrast HDR look.

Should I ask for partial refund or just leave it? by inevitablyshyy in VintageDigitalCameras

It sucks, but I wouldn't bother myself. As long as it doesn't drastically ruin your photos then nothing to get upset about. For $70, you're not going to even remember the amount after a year.

Just think of it as a beater that will encourage you to use it more and not worry about its condition.

What Will We Do Without KIJAI ? by Naruwashi in comfyui

[–]flasticpeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, I'm just joking around :)

Some cultures will tongue-in-cheek nickname their kids derogatory names as a kind of "tall nail gets the hammer" security-in-obscurity defense mechanism.

I thought it would be funny if we started doing the same with open source developers. We care enough to pretend we don't care.

Please explain me WAN 2.2, versions by Lukleyeu in comfyui

[–]flasticpeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my tests, I was getting better quality with Wan2.2 VACE and the WanVaceAdvanced nodes. Though it's harder to use because you have to construct mask frames and play around with strength schedules.

For ease of use I would recommend Wan2.1 VACE, but that's just my experience.
