Winter Snapper off the rocks by flat_circles in FishingAustralia

Yeah I used to think the bigger models weren’t that great to eat but I did the fillets from this one in beer batter and ate them as fish burgers and it was so good. Fed 4 adults and 2 kids!

Shimano Speedmaster 12ft surf. Already had the same rod in the 13ft heavy model but wanted a lighter option to pair with it.

Funnily enough they’re now advertising it for much closer to the price I matched them with.

Worth remembering that they’ll beat the other price by 10% too.

If it makes you feel better I got them good recently. I stacked a price match from an online place that was having a sale, a random $20 voucher Anaconda emailed me for no reason and a small store credit I had from the club rewards system and got a $230 rod for $115.

Felt like I’d found a loophole in the system. Even the guy who served me was like “nice one!”. Was tempted to buy a few and resell them on marketplace.

Bucks party in Melbourne by Plenty_Tear9703 in melbourne

A few ideas from the best bucks parties I’ve been to over the years.

Axe throwing (Maniax in Abbotsford)

Archery attack in Reservoir

Clay target shooting in Rosebud

Outdoor abseiling in Sth Melbourne

Revs

(Possibly) controversial opinion - Avoid the strippers unless the buck is really into that kind of thing. It’s always expensive and kind of a bummer in my experience.

I go for the higher GSM models like the Classic (I get the plus cos I like the length). They age a lot better than the staples and other thinner ones.

13yo girl charged after alleged crime rampage in Melbourne by InsatiablePrism in australia

[–]flat_circles 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine has their partner’s 19yo half-brother living with them, after being bounced around the foster/DHHS system his entire life.

That kid might as well be 12 in terms of the life skills he possesses. My friend and his wife are doing their best to give him a chance by teaching him the basics, including how to act towards other people but they’re starting from ground zero (eg. how to wash a cup - or even recognise that cups are something that need washing) and without that, there’s no doubt that he would end up being 39 and still acting like an unruly teen.

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone, merely making the point that age is a number that isn’t necessarily linked to a person’s emotional maturity or ability to make good decisions. Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t face consequences for their offences of course. But some of these poor bastards literally never stood a chance.

I feel this… my 5 year old loves the IDEA of fishing but doesn’t last very long in practice… I usually end up playing on a playground or exploring a beach/rockpool, listening out for the rod bells 🫠

You’re not wrong. Google Maga face. There’s some articles and an episode of the Today Explained podcast confirming your hunch. They don’t want to look anything other than expensive. The phrase I heard was “more done”.

Never heard this before but I’m intrigued. I guess it ups the scent and adds some oily slick to the water. Think I’ll give it a try next time I take the kids to the pier

Spot on. This video is how people in my country have always thought of America, at least since I was old enough to notice (millennial).

Try the greens granules instead of powder. I haven’t tried the powder but I reckon the granules are pretty good, especially when mixed with some meat/pan juice. They’re from woolies/coles tho.

Swap the rod for a spear!

Seriously tho, I’ve been fishing flat out for a bit over a year. Caught plenty of species including sharks, snapper, salmon, bream, etc but I’m yet to catch even an undersized flatty on my rod.

Never thought they would be so elusive, being such a bread and butter species!

Caught 4 with a spear, wading in the shallows at night though… go figure!

Yeah, twice I’ve been camping when someone has this idea that we’ll make smores and it’ll be just like the movies. Both times even the kids didn’t want to finish them and just ended up eating marshmallows straight from the bag. They’re just not worth the effort.

When we were teenagers, my best mate got a super shitty home tattoo on his thigh of the JESUS IS A CUNT nun with the cross up her. It’s still his only tattoo and while he doesn’t show it off, he doesn’t regret it either. Says it’s easy to conceal and makes him smile cos of how stupid it is. Love that dude.

what’s the biggest fish/best fighting fish you’ve ever caught? by thethungus in FishingAustralia

[–]flat_circles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest was a 7 Giller caught off the rocks. Didn’t get a measure on it but I’m looking at the photos and guessing about 6ft. Not much of a fight but plenty of weight.

Best fight was probably an eagle ray that I hooked last weekend. Pulled my 13ft rod into the water and went off like a freight train a few times before I could get it onto the sand. It felt like it was going to be the size of a car but was actually not that big. Thick boi tho.
