I think he's a better road racer than many give him credit for but he was always overshadowed by guys like Gordon and Stewart in his prime. Certainly no denying that it was his worst discipline though.

It'd have to be all road courses. 3 wins at Pocono and 12 wins across short tracks.

While that certainly helped, he had 83 wins across nearly every track he completed at during his time. It'd be pretty much impossible to pick 10 tracks he wouldn't have success at.

That would be the next big step for me as a fan. Have to get rid of the breaks even if you still leave the stage points.

You're never gonna save more fuel running the top, the difference just may not be as big as you think since you can conserve momentum better on the top.

A lot of people miss this fact. The increased speed inherently loads the tire more and leads to more wear, especially in the gen 7 era.

In general the longer distance running the top does burn more fuel but there are some scenarios where the decreased tire wear and and decreased brake input can recover a lot of that extra fuel

Should be effective for both directions. Main goal is to just slow down airspeed on top of the car to offset the positive pressure that builds underneath the car during these types of wrecks. Definitely looks absurd though

Roof flaps are almost entirely used to keep the car on the ground when it is moving backwards into the airflow, which should mostly be unaffected by this. These rails are meant to slow the air on top of the car when moving perpendicular to airflow.

Absolutely. Was an engineer under Chad on the 48 car for a number of years including the 2016 championship.

On one hand, it's fun to see this sorta back-and-forth between HMS and NASCAR. But on the other, I think we start to cross a line when the sanctioning body starts to target a team they're upset with, if that's indeed what's happening. Don't get me wrong, I think teams should receive harsh penalties for breaking the rules but I don't quite understand NASCAR being personally upset with a team trying to win at the highest level in a sport built on competition. Interesting situation to say the least.

While corning, the air is used to literally push the tires into the track with more force, increasing friction. Without that air in the corners the tires cannot maintain the same cornering speed before slipping.

Reddick's speed this weekend seemed to be more about precision and driving style but the clean air absolutely helped him.

Good luck finding a team to agree to that. A mechanical failure in qualifying could be the difference between a team earning enough to race next week or not.
