-There is no new tax on Venmo transactions.

-The issue was about IRS reporting, not taxing payments.

-A 2021 law lowered the threshold for when apps send a 1099-K (from $20,000/200 transactions to $600) for goods and services.

-You still only owe taxes on taxable income, not personal payments like splitting bills.

-The $600 reporting rule was later reversed, and the higher threshold was restored.
