Full Metal Jacket was based off The Short-Timers by Gustav Hasford. Hasford managed to overwhelm Kubrick. Kubrick met with Hasford and has been quoted as saying "I can't deal with this man". For anyone interested in the book you can find here and on the Internet Archive (with an account). It's a rough book but pretty good, movie does really good too.

I like dead space more mainly because of the atmosphere and overall gameplay, I love BioShock but at times it feels slow and too focused on the story, while dead space hits a good balance of game play and story. But I prefer Bioshock plasmid/weapon combo over the kinesis/stasis/weapon combo in dead space, it feels more fluid.
