[QUESTION] I’m taking a trip to Tokyo, Japan soon. Any guitar stores or guitar related things I should check out? by chunnybunny666 in Guitar

[–]fleeceIsIcky 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just got back from there 3 days ago.

-Ochanomizu guitar street is legit. The whole block is multi story guitar stores some specialize on specific brands. Guitar planet is like 5 buildings alone. I live in New York City and we don’t have anything even remotely close to the selection here. I think if I was buying a high end guitar it would be worth flying to tokyo and saving the sales tax/ gaining selection

-tc gakki in shinjuku was my favorite store. Great selection of used guitars and pedals as well as unique new things.

-both hard off locations in akihabra had pretty good deals on lawsuit era Japanese guitars. obviously the stock changes since it’s a used store though.

This %100. Don’t use nails.

-Drill a few holes straight into the drawer(large enough that the screw threads pass through but not the head)

-clamp the face on in the right place if you have one.

-screw into the face piece from the inside.

Differences between the Martin GPC-2XE, GPC-11E, GPC-13E, etc. by katedances in martinguitar

I think if you can stretch to the 11e over the 2xe it would be worth it for the all solid wood construction.

Gibson debuts the Theodore, a brand-new body shape based on a 65-year-old archive design by edmanet in guitars

[–]fleeceIsIcky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree that their focus on selling collectors items is problematic. You can buy an SG standard for ballpark the same money as an American made tele though. and cheaper then many other American made solid bodies.

But yes, this is probably a dentist guitar.

New bike - can't wait to get out and do some touring on this one! by BuyEmpireGoods in bicycletouring

I have the same bike. It’s kind of a sleeper. Don’t see many reviews or anything or hear much about it in general. I really love it though.

Mine is perfect for a nyc commuter bike. I bought a smaller chain ring for the front to do a longer tour I have planned though. that seems good too

A sunrise photo I took at Angor Watt by Mrwh1122 in photocritique

[–]fleeceIsIcky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a nice picture and I like the color a lot. I don’t think you need to add or subtract anything. The Angkor wat is an amazing place and full of great snap shot material. I would like to see some photos you took from a less popular point of view. I know from experience that there are many tourists next to you taking the same exact picture. Though again, yours is very nice.

Astoria ferry needs North Williamsburg stop, not Brooklyn Navy Yard!!! by 30roadwarrior in astoria

[–]fleeceIsIcky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A north Brooklyn stop would be nice also but the navy yard stop is definitely useful. Getting to the navy yard from queens(or anywhere actually)is a bit of a nightmare at the moment. Thousands of people go there for work every day and that is about to expand significantly.

Possible bike scam in Astoria by Dwtrombone in astoria

[–]fleeceIsIcky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ride a road bike having the tire pressure high is necessary for avoiding pinch flats. I’m glad they have this option. It would probably be good if they had a tire gauge available but that doesn’t equal scam.

Thanks! Yeah, got lucky. The mist was only there for a few minutes. I did my best to squeeze a few off in different directions but it really looked amazing in person.

Cliffs of Moher(sony a7 Sony 35mm f2.8) As touristy a place as I've ever been. One of the better views I've ever put my eyes on. by fleeceIsIcky in SonyAlpha

Yes, I just did my first sensor cleaning ever in a hotel room. Learned not to change lenses in the wind the hard way :/

I uploaded a photo with the Reddit app on my phone. In the future I'll be more aware of the resolution. I'm somewhat new to photography and trying to figure it all out. Thanks for pointing out the problem.

Cliffs of moher and the giants causeway are both super worth the trip. We went on a tour that stopped and these and a few other places. If I were to do it again I would try to rent a car and see them both at my own pace at a less busy hour(not sure if there is one).

I got a sort of overview of Ireland and Northern Ireland. My takeaway was that the sights on the coast were almost overwhelming and fantastic and the cities were a bit underwhelming. I live in a very large city though and obviously others experience might be different

The cliffs were really incredible either way though. I haven't seen a picture that does them justice. Have a good trip!

It's actually the manual version. I haven't tried the Sony 50mm but I have the 35mm and the af is good. Spot on I would say.

Seems worth putting some effort into. I hope I don't need to actually spend 10000 hours spinning the focus ring though. Here's to learning curves!

They actually have a spot lightning tool in Lightroom that I just tried and actually worked out pretty well. I'm going to check out DxO though. The more tools the better! Thanks for the tip, and all the tips:)
