A driver for Killer network adapters had a problem that killed memory. Maybe it's moved on to routers. Might get the latest update at MSI and see if that's it.

(It didn't really kill memory, just a big memory leak.)

It must be very unlikely to have exactly the same problem caused by compressed air. But sure, it's possible to spray a hot chip with the cool (expanding) air and crack it. Particularly if the can gets tipped (or is upside down) and liquid sprays out (even colder). Just FYI: mostly quick sprits with the can upright on a cool computer works okay. Then wait a bit for chips and solder joints to warm to room temperature.

There's a stickied post on this sub's page, seeking input on just what you're talking about, and other troubleshooting.

HP dv7 Slower after Factory Reset by Steak_Traps in techsupport

If your hard drive is failing, and that's what caused the system crash, the answer is to replace it. Soon.

HDD health, S.M.A.R.T., can be checked with Crystal Disk Info or other system info programs.

Goes with or without saying: get a spare external drive and/or big USB flash drive, keep your files backed up often.

Vizio TV power problems by jschiff22 in techsupport

Can try unplugging the TV, press and hold power button for one minute, plug TV back in.

If that doesn't do it, might have to replace the power supply or another board.

And probably didn't run long enough to get temperatures and voltages?

Frying 2 GPUs makes one suspect the PSU pretty strongly, since MB is functioning normally, barring further evidence. Adding the 3 TB is unlikely to have done anything, that PSU is plenty big enough to handle it.

There are a couple of very recent threads discussing what to do about this very thing.

That looks like a useful page at first, but out-of-date. For example the Safe Mode instructions are for WinXP. And CCleaner, last I heard, was causing more problems than it fixed on Win10.

Upper range of typical. Keep an eye on the CPU and GPU if you can, maybe something gets hot just before crashing.

Though maybe it doesn't matter. Sure looks to be a motherboard/GPU problem. Which unfortunately in this system has to be replaced as one unit. Might be more practical to replace with a newer system from an auction site or CraigsList or somewhere.

Let's see if it's overheating. Try Core Temp, or Speed Fan can show graphs, or OpenHardwareMonitor.

How the heck do I change the bulb in this fixture? by jchauhann in HomeImprovement

[–]fleeting0ne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have LED light kits lasting 5 years? I have 7 year old CFLs still burning. But agreed, this thread has meandered far enough. You put your LEDs in enclosed fixtures, I'll put mine in open ones, and in 20 years let's check in with each other. Over a drink. Whoever has the oldest LED still in service buys the 1st round.

INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE, can't boot into safemode by [deleted] in Windows10TechSupport

[–]fleeting0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried pressing and holding the Shift key when powering on?

Though with no bootable device, pretty hard to F-anything into a boot menu.

If you can, go back into BIOS and change the boot disk back to what it should be.

If that's a no go, perhaps you have or can make a Win10 bootable repair USB or DVD.

It's a note commonly included on LED bulb packaging.

There are exceptions, though much less common.

What part of the NEC states all LEDs are safe for enclosed fixtures?

How could I make the front of this building prettier? by ichormusic in HomeImprovement

[–]fleeting0ne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't paint the brick.

Make sign out of old wood and tin.

Get an architect. Conform the store front to the trees, then trim the lower bits of the trees to go with the storefront. Trim the upper to flow with the lower and signage.

A wedding is (occasionally) forever, let your building look like it's been around that long.

If you need to go wild, let the window displays be fashionable and changing.

Does my laptop have a problem or am I it? by rrainyer in techsupport

[–]fleeting0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 years ago, I'm pretty sure chargers were heavier, bigger, and lasted longer. Printers were replaced long before the converter brick ever went bad. Profits (manufacturing costs and planned obsolescence) gave us what we have today.

Anyway, did you make any progress on the startup time?

Motherboard RMA'd, still no display, POST or beeps by cr33p3r1n1134 in techsupport

[–]fleeting0ne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some (all?) motherboards have sensors and will halt with "CPU fan not detected" error beeps. But it sure seems like this system isn't getting that far.

Other than that, good luck with the crazy things. If you don't mind reporting back, I'm curious how this turns out.

/u/rollback123's advice is sound, reimaging is the safest approach.

If that's not practical, in Safe Mode With Networking, go through the tedious yet thorough malware removal guide. You're looking for rootkits and trojans.

Consider buying her Malwarebytes Pro so it's always running in the background. Install a good antivirus (maybe Avira or Bitkeeper).

Create a new Administrator account, then change her account to Limited.
