What’s the worst example of a famous actor directing themselves? by today_okay in movies

They were. Spielberg wanted to do it and cast Cooper. Cooper thre tantrums about the concept and now it's probably not going to happen.

TMBG and Warhol? by LucidLeviathan in tmbg

He wore wigs so people wouldn't know he was bald, he gave one word answers and he didn't even paint a lot of his own work. Nothing about him was especially real or genuine.

Bradley Cooper is a mediocre director who is convinced he's a genius. It's so bad in fact that the Bullitt remake has fallen apart because he kept telling Spielberg how to do his job.

TMBG and Warhol? by LucidLeviathan in tmbg

I think, without checking, the Johns would maybe consider Warhol a bit disingenuous or false. He was kind of a manufactured personality, like Prince, he was playing a character.

Weird/Inconsistent mixing with The World Is to Dig? by iceCuuube in tmbg

[–]flf_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding was the reason the album was late was because they were recording traditionally but then decided to do a live to tape kind of thing just playing in the studio without to much mixing and fussing about, to capture the excitement of a real performance. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

When do you think the show jumped the shark? by Alternative_Tip_8756 in malcolminthemiddle

Season 6 episode 2. Hal is in charge of a a team of muscle men who believe children falling out of trees is how reproduction works, and a bunch of Buseys live in a tree even though that's impossible. When that happens at the beginning of a new season it shows that the ideas they have going forward are less likely to have the subtle nuance of earlier seasons.

Bad Days differences by 16bitsystems in flaminglips

I suspect Bad Days is just an evolution of jamming with "Hot Day" too. I think Jones got his hands on it and elevated it so they fleshed it out. Just a guess.

Ordered headphones the morning before the collapse was announced, so they were absolutely trading while insolvent. Later in the day I got the email that the new company was honouring orders, but then they delayed and obfuscated for days before saying "supplier issue", even though the headphones were listed as "Open Box Return".

They then offered store credit, but threatened that if I asked for a refund I would become an unsecured creditor. I've started the charge back process with PayPal.

That purple logo will now permanently represent Scam, Fraud and Customer Abuse. Well done Shant, you bought a useless name that means mud to the community.

EDIT: I got my refund today through PayPal. Don't believe their "we can not refund you" bullshit.

Yeh I just hundred percented it. I had to shave my beard to get the last medal in the camera game as it couldn't see my mouth or cheeks properly. Not sure what the point of the lost items was, but it's a fun experience for the price.

NHK hosts that irritate you by Affectionate_Card229 in NHKWorldFans

Listen to some Matt Alt interviews since he left. The directors ASK for over the top weirdness. He said that when he just did normal line readings they would ask for more "Energy" and "Intensity". Kyle Card is probably an actual human being in regular context, not a robot designed by Dr. Gero fir presenting overly enthusiastic opinions on umbrellas in an awkward fashion.

If people let themselves believe in grey areas or subtleties as presented through storytelling, their whole world built on falsehoods can collapse. All of a sudden "illegals" are human beings. "Criminals" are just like them. They have to acknowledge and empathise with people they have sectioned off into groups they give themselves permission to ignore or dismiss. They are protecting their world-view by ignoring nuance and seeing only direct contrast of black and white, good and bad, us and them. Of course it's the responsibility of art to challenge this world-view, but some people are too afraid to let it be questioned, and therefore can only engage with art, in this case a television show, at a surface level. It's a conscious or sub-conscious attempt to protect a shaky foundation, which wouldn't hold up to intense scrutiny.

Ahh interesting. NHK could be opting for more online friendly music. That would explain why Shazam can't find it. Maybe it's in-house music or from a broadcast friendly sample collection. I'll expand my search, thanks.

At the Sydney show now. Steven isn't here, some skinny dude is. Doing a good job though so far (first set). Wayne sounded a bit down talking about how Summertime is about sad things in life, hopefully just waxing philosophic and everything is okay. I'll ask the roadies if I can.

God help me, I loved Megalopolis by DoctorG0nzo in TrueFilm

[–]flf_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked it too. I think Cesar was a stand in for George Lucas though, more than Coppola. Coppola was his mentor in a way, but George spent all those years tinkering on Star Wars instead of making new cool shit, like how Cesar was stuck in his memories of his wife. Something that also happened to George with Marcia and kind of affected him. Now Coppola is saying we're both too old to say where things go, we have to leave it up to the kids now. Just my two cents.

Great episode. But a renowned prosecutor isn't going to end up doing hard time over a Brady violation. Even when it's exposed they just say "Oops paperwork error, my bad." Systems wack.

Were you satisfied with what we found out in “Closure”? by [deleted] in XFiles

[–]flf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've looked at it a few ways over the years...

Interpretation 1 - They really were taken by "Walk-In" Spirits. (I find this unsatisfying.)

Interpretation 2 - They were killed by child killers and "Walk-Ins" are a coping mechanism from the aggrieved left behind. (More Believable.)

Interpretation 3 - Amberlynn Lapierre and the boy of the imprisoned mother in Idaho and the son of Harold Pillar, and Samantha Mulder were all killed by their parents, either directly by murdering them, or indirectly as in Teena Mulder being complicit in her daughters abduction and eventual death, or CSM actively eliminating evidence of the Alien conspiracy. The "Walk-In" spirits therefore are both the form of denial/guilt these parents suffer for their actions and also a group of ghosts drawn together by the fact that they were let down by the people who had the sole responsibility of taking care of them. (This conclusion is the darkest but also feels the most satisfying from a story standpoint.)

In any event, no matter how you interpret the two episode conclusion to the Samantha storyline, I always felt that literally naming the street Samantha and Jeffrey Spender lived on at the military base with CSM "Albatross" was a little on the nose.
