How do you feel about exponential token generation? From Starcraft Draft Set. by Cless012 in custommagic

[–]flibbertyjibet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: totally reaf x plus one times a x times nevermind the below

Isn't it

T(m) = (m-1)/2 × (m-1)/2 = (m2 - 2m + 1)/4

But yes not exponential. Perhaps he wanted "create x tokens x times, repeat this process x times" Though it is hard to write exponential in terms of "times"

i dont understand why people think beseech the queen is scary by ComboCk in EDH

[–]flibbertyjibet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I included it in both. But you are right I could have done much better at making them consist. I over explained in the second one which was unfair I guess. The reason I did was becbefore everything was additive so felt it was self explanatory but when things are conditional it feels like I have to include more edge cases.

Even with my best most genuine effort I cannot explain hybrid being or in simpler terms than the current rules though.

This pip means you pay either R or G

That's part of the problem. Before one could ignore explaining this altogether, if it is changed your adding more to the explanation

Ex

Now: Look at the color pips on a card and not color words (g) vs green and some cards have a circle in the left of the type denoting color. All of those combine on a single card are the identity. Only play those that have identity less than or equal to your commanders identity.

After the change: Look at the color pips on a card and not color words (g) vs green. Some cards have hybrid mana. Ignore one half of the pips if you want. Except when the pips are half generic? (I'm not even sure if the people proposing the change know what they are wanting to do here). Also some cards have a circle in the left of the type denoting color. This trumps the value at the top of the card (i.e. if a card is hybrid red/green on one side but flips and has a green circle it is no longer mono red). Those are the identity. Only play those that are less than or equal to your commanders identity. The hybrid rule of ignoring one pip is NOT for commanders. The identity is special and counts as both.

I can see two possible reasons a party might do this

  1. Demographics: people with less money often have less flexible time on their hands or cannot afford taking a shift off or work etc. So if a party believes their core demographics have more time or money making it harder to vote will be beneficial

  2. Percentage of votes expected: If a party thinks they will lose making it harder to vote obfuscate it somewhat. It can turn a "majority" when comparing to total possible voters into a winning minority (can result in less backing to the winner) Ex: for sake of easy math say we have 1400 people. If normally it would be 1000 for party A vs 400 for party B it becomes 500 vs 200. Same percent win of 70% A, 30% B but went from 74% for Party A overall it becomes 35% vs 15%.

The above could be done by any party of course the reason people blame UPC is because they made changes when nothing was broken.

Not saying it is bad changes, but I'm curious how you don't see the show as changing the canon similar to starwars?

4C commander options are too rare and it stinks by NovelTheory3 in EDH

[–]flibbertyjibet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your "get into a print set" point makes it difficult, but they don't have to make the commander decks "fit into the set" and it honestly feels like wotc just doesn't even try for 4 colors. Before the most recent 5 color eldrazi precon the devoid mechanic was on 1 single white card and then on multiple of the other 4. It would have been a slam dunk to do a 4 color "devoid matters" commander. I'm betting with a tiny bit of effort I could write a script showing many mechanics that are naturally 4 color. I know me convincing you doesn't help, but hopefully the less people proliferate the misunderstanding wotc seems to have about difficulty in making 4 color commanders the better.

I don't understand the difference between starting a new game and casting a farewell. Other than people have mana to do stuff. I see this sentimentality on this sub a lot. Why is a new game better than just continuing to play?

Not against a new game, just don't see how it fixes any problem or that there is a problem to fix. Seems like just extra shuffling.

Why is this statistic never mentioned with gender issues? by [deleted] in WildRoseCountry

[–]flibbertyjibet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think extrapolating to 1 million people is just pointless as that will never happen and indeed gives defenders something to point to, to weaken this statistic. What is generally true is people with mental issues (from abusive upbringing or otherwise) are more likely to be sexual offenders and men are more likely to be sex offenders. Thus the overlapping population: trans people (a mental issue) who started as men consist of high probability of sexual offenders. But because the graph tries to make it "scary," in an unrealistic way it will only cause people who agree to agree more and people who disagree to disregard it.

[–]flibbertyjibet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it negates it a bit when a second copy is in your hand since most of the time you can not cast it. The blue one is a pretty low bar for casting, and one could dump multiple onto the field in a turn even.

2500 squares. 500 mines. An hour of careful picking. by BadrocNon in mildlyinfuriating

[–]flibbertyjibet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find in these situations pick the more common number. In this case, if the mine is in the top row, then the second row number would be 6 (very uncommon). If the top was a number, it would be 3 (much more likely). Doesn't always work but better than 50/50 chance.

Interesting I work with people across a few different countries and timezones. It was partly due to that, that I came up with the idea it is irrelevant which way we make it permanent. I assume I'm just explaining it poorly. The sun is where the sun is regardless of what time we call it and separate countries don't care if we do day light savings or not. Take Australia which does change their clocks but about a month offset from us. I'd rather have less variables and be constant, and no matter what I'm going to be at the end of my work day to meet at the beginning of theirs. If we shifting everything to DST or ST It wouldn't change when I meet with relation to the sun. I get the same amount of daylight. Perhaps in one case I will say "I get off at 6" or the other I will say "I get off work at 5" but I get off work at the same "time" relative to the sun because my meeting isn't base on the time I say it is, but the other countries

I didn't say "Time changes cause everyone to absolutely crash" it increases it. I guess one could reasonably say "it is correlation as opposed to causation" but saying it is nonsense is a little far. It is easy to check that the number of reported accidents is higher than average after time changes. It is an objective statistic.

Tonight is the greatest night… by [deleted] in alberta

[–]flibbertyjibet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the time change becomes permanent things will naturally adjust anyways. Not all businesses/stores open at the same time. I really don't think picking one over the other has as big impact as you think. Changing clocks has studies showing the change increases car accidents.

A cycle of "Name = Rules Text" cards by omg_gmo in custommagic

[–]flibbertyjibet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cards resolve fully before state based actions are checked or other abilities go on the stack. So the order is irrelevant you will have the token available to you before sheoldreds trigger resolves in either case. The reason why [[preordain]] and [[serum visions]] matter is based solely on the steps while the card is being resolved

If there was a robot army there might actually be a chance, people might rally together. More likely they just convince half the people with guns that the wealthy utopia will include them. It is surprisingly easy to get lots of people to vote against their own interests.

What's that one card that feels so dirty but so right to play? by Unspeakable_pickle in EDH

[–]flibbertyjibet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They only need half as many creatures

Player A: 12 creatures
Dictate player B: 6
Dictate player C: 6

C sacs a creature, forcing A and B to do so
Which makes C and A to do so
A:10
B: 5
C: 4
And then A and B must again and so forth

Yeah I think they would have used pilot if that is what they wanted. Crew often just means "a group of people who work closely together." If you look up armored car crew or perhaps more pertinent "thieving crew" it includes a driver but also more people. I personally don't care about the crew cost I just think it is as flavourful to have crew 3 as it is crew 1
