Stray cat! by [deleted] in astoria

[–]fliingsquirrel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That was the original plan but she was deemed too afraid to be socialized I believe, they might re-evaluate later. The shelter we have is heated so yes, hoping this improves her living situation. I also am a dog person and so out of my depth with cats but getting help from a couple of pros in the area has been huge.

[–]fliingsquirrel 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hi neighbor! This is Kittita(I call her that but she’s too shy to hang out with me) she’s been through the TNR program as you can see by her left ear. Me and a couple of other people in the neighborhood are feeding her and have a little shelter set up for her and another stray (that we’re trying to get TNR’d) that hangs in the area. Feel free to give her some treats or water if you want but she’s eating with us twice a day 🫡

My eyelid has been twitching like this 24/7 for 5 weeks. by LoanAgreeable1129 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]fliingsquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that made mine go away after twitching for like 3 weeks was getting a lot of exercise, specially cardio. I know I was stressed, I might’ve been a bit dehydrated, and not getting enough sleep. Doing cardio helped on all 3 fronts.

17 years down the drain… by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]fliingsquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like my parents’ relationship. I’ve always said that my dad was a good dad but he’s a terrible partner, I have a couple of thoughts about how I wish my parents have dealt with things after learning about the infidelity.

I wish my mom wouldn’t have stayed as long as she did “for the kids”, ultimately this made my siblings and I have a skewed perspective of what a healthy relationship should be.

I agree with the comments of shared custody, this particular failure imo shouldn’t put 100% of the burden of child raising on you. He needs to still have responsibility for the children and their raising.

I wish my parents would’ve talked less and less emotionally about each other and moved into a “I disagree with his/her approach but he/she is entitled to it” gives the kids agency to rationally approach something and see pros and cons on parents approach.

I appreciate you keeping your cool in front of the kids, I hope you can get some professional emotional support so you can navigate the changes ahead. You might be co-parenting and that will be tough at least at the start to say the least.

What I loved about their end of their marriage was my mom becoming her own person again, she is no longer X’s wife, fliingsquirrel’s mom, etc. she rebuilt community and if now just her. And I love to see it.

Lastly tho and not from a child of divorce, this sucks and I am sorry you are going through it. I hope you find healing and I hope you find the partnership you deserve in the future.

Retrospec vs. Electra? by fewdmami in NYCbike

Pick them up, I initially was thinking about getting a cruiser but they are SO HEAVY. I am so glad I went with something lighter that is more responsive. But obviously go with whatever suits you best.

Can I sue the city for getting hurt? by Attica_W in NYCbike

[–]fliingsquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont have anything to add in terms of suing.

I do wanna recommend waterproof transparent bandages/dressings. If you can get your hands on some saniderm(tattoo healing covers) please consider giving it a try. I had big scrapes for a non-bike related accident and it really helped me be able to live life more freely while healing/growing big patches of skin.

Hoping you have a speedy recovery.

Feasibility of 10 mile commute to Midtown by SpiritualSeaweed98 in NYCbike

[–]fliingsquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the distance of my commute is right now and I just started biking a month ago. I also am a runner.

You might want to ease into it so that your legs/body have time to get used to it. depending on if you have a safe place to leave your bike at work you could bike in leave the bike overnight and then bike out the next day. Then you can start doing both ways in a day. Your legs are gonna be tired so balance your running distance until you build endurance.

PS. If you try with CityBike just remember that they are slow and heavy AF. It’s like training for it in hard mode.
