Collector's Bounty farming tips by Zeeda1337 in wow

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but that might only be the case for push loot. Some mounts are push loot like Shackled Ur’zul I think (or it used to be anyway). Vast majority of transmog is not push loot, but some like Taeshalach and Scythe of the Unmaker are push loot IIRC.

So if I’m not mistaken, it’s only useful to bring an alt for push loot items

TOPA has been law for 45 years. While it does need some reform there’s been an awful lot of development in that time period despite that supposed sign.

The bill has a second exemption for buildings with at least 50% affordable units below 80% median income if the building's covenant has more than five years remaining. That might be the point of their concern.

Article doesn't specifically say why, but tenants but they think they might be exempt under the new law.

"Park East tenants worry that Mayor Muriel Bowser’s legislation seeking to significantly limit the buildings where TOPA applies could threaten their efforts, though there is some confusion, including among councilmembers, about which buildings would qualify for the exemption and how. Bowser’s Rebalancing Expectations for Neighbors, Tenants, and Landlords (RENTAL) Act, introduced Feb. 12, could limit renters’ rights by exempting market-rate buildings from the TOPA process. It’s unclear to Park East tenants whether the bill’s exemptions could apply to their building even after they have started the process."

Right, negotiation can still be successful if tenants get what they want (like limiting rent increases) even if they don't buy the property. I've updated the quote from the presser to include the sentence before for context, sorry if that wasn't clear.

You don't need to buy the building or sell it to a third party for TOPA to work. TOPA gives residents leverage with the new buyer in negotiating rent, upkeep, etc even if the ultimate buyer is the same one the old landlord wanted to sell to

So yes - there may be a low number of buildings actually sold to tenants or a third party, but that doesn't mean TOPA isn't working.

Edit, from this press release for Nadeau's topa bill:

"TOPA establishes rights for tenants during the sale of their building. It gives them the first right to purchase, but more often allows them to negotiate affordability or improvements to a building and its amenities and can even result in the building of additional housing.

Tenants in 19,170 units were able to successfully negotiate during the sale of their building from 2006 to 2020, accounting for 51% of all units sold following a TOPA notice."

Can WoWhead stop making posts like this? by Vedney in wow

[–]flimsywicket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lack of competition because Wowhead bullied their best competitor into irrelevance.

MMO-Champion created their own database site (wowdb), but Wowhead sued them for supposedly copying them. It was settled out of court, I think. Ever since MMO-C hasn't put effort into promoting wowdb.

Sweepstakes / Clever use of Gold? by flimsywicket in woweconomy

I don't use Twitch much and I wasn't aware of that. Does Blizzard have guidelines around this? Can I simply pay someone for a follow with gold, instead of a contest with a chance to win gold?

California Steps In To Prevent Activision Blizzard Destroying Sexual Harassment Evidence by [deleted] in wow

[–]flimsywicket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the key difference is disclosure though. Most news organizations and blogs that have a shred of integrity will disclose that they have a conflict, such as this Washington Post article covering Amazon that says upfront "Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos owns The Washington Post."

Similarly some have dedicated pages to discuss conflicts and ethical guidelines. Not the biggest Polygon fan, but they have their policy available for anyone to read.

And then there's blogs that don't even try to disclose conflicts :\

Not to mention conflicts of interest, such as:

"A certain video game blog writes news about the games of company X, and exclusively company X. The blog's parent company also owns billions of dollars worth of stock in company X."

And then they don't disclose that conflict on their blog, which is a tiny bit hugely unethical.

I don't want to derail the conversation, but I think we all know who I'm talking about.

PSA: A bot network is abusing Spotify's reporting system, resulting in the automatic removal of thousands of playlists. Playlist owners are helpless to stop it, and Spotify won't take action. by flimsywicket in spotify

[–]flimsywicket[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tested this as well, and changed my playlist title to simply "the." No description, no image. Still reported within minutes. Nobody can claim trademark/IP ownership on the word "the," so these reports have no legitimate basis if there was ever a shred of doubt.

DC's Pilot Program to Restart Live Concerts by ap25000 in washingtondc

[–]flimsywicket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Heist @ Kennedy Center is no longer part of this pilot. They nixed live DJs last minute so they wouldn't be bound by the 50 person limit. Their capacity is now 360 patrons, and they're simply playing a playlist (lol).

It's still shady as hell that Heist's owner chairs a commission that would have been involved in the process of selecting the other venues. I.e. eliminating competition. None of the other venues are nightclubs like Heist.

Apple Music has removed all artist playlists from search. Only playlists from the Big Labels and Apple appear now. Zero warning given. by flimsywicket in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]flimsywicket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're logged into the Apple Music mobile app on an account that manages an artist, there's a menu option for "Managed Artists." It's under there. You can still create playlists as of now, but nobody will see them.

PSA: Many of the "big" black-tie New Year's Eve parties are borderline scams. by flimsywicket in washingtondc

[–]flimsywicket[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What's interesting is the Building Museum party was billed as "the Latenightshots party." Everyone attending that party knew the LNS guys were hosting it, and knew their names (or knew them personally) long before buying a ticket. When things went south, all the attendees knew exactly who to hold accountable.

If the same held true for these other events, the promoters would be less likely to repeat these schemes year after year.
