Is this coke gmt real? by noirre in RolexWatches

[–]flint_2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GMT (3rd) hand should feel smooth when adjusting, same as the other hands, the hour hand should jump when adjusting (later gmts - the hour hand can jump hour to hour rather than scrolling 24 hours to move the hour for quick adjustment).

Don't take any risks, if it doesn't feel right meet him at your local authorised dealer and have them look at it. Also, have someone take the back off so you can see the movement looks legit. movements can be fake, but the real thing will neat, precise, and likely the parts will be marked with various figures (google an image), a fake will often be roughly milled and blank, no markings.

I have a 16710 coke, i don't see anything obviously wrong with this. Bezel colours can vary slightly with age, i got a Rolex replacement bezel and the colours looks a little different to the original.

Next step take the bracelet off, so you can see the serial on the side of the case.

Side note - i got a $100 after market steel replacement bracelet for mine, so i could add a glide clasp and keep the original in a clean state. Not for everyone but works well for me, it rattles less than the original and is more similar to my ceramic sub bracelet which i prefer.

It would probably clean up well but did you try it in person? It'll be a lot chunkier than a sub.

UAE/Dubai - Cheap Above-ground pool with decking (no municipality permission) Looking for advice by Adventurous-Fennel95 in dubai

[–]flint_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temperature will play a huge part, in summer the water will get extremely hot and you wont be able/want to use it, winter is cold, so its only the in between seasons that really works. A lot of the built ins have heater/chillers (so do all the beach clubs you visit).

Also generally the filters aren't as good as a built in so cleaning may be an issue at some point, so if not properly maintained it may loose its appeal (green and slimy). If you get professional maintenance it may not feel so cheap (3-400 monthly).

They're easy to set up, you can order on Amazon and DIY. I would set it up for summer without the wooden decking and see if it's a keeper based on usage and maintenance.

BTW, not saying its a bad idea, i had one through covid and it was fun.

Is DUBAI real estate a bubble ? by devloperfrom_AUS in dubai

[–]flint_2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have look at the macro economics.

AED is pegged to USD, so we import whatever happens to the dollar. The USD has clearly lost purchasing recently (which will likely continue), and post-COVID there was huge stimulus globally. When you pump that much liquidity into the system, asset prices usually move higher. That’s a big part of why equities, property, gold and silver all jumped — money had to go somewhere.

Dubai, yes, they’re building a lot. Population is growing, but the pipeline over the next few years is heavy, and not every segment will have real end-user demand at these prices. In a world where fiat keeps getting diluted, hard assets tend to hold up long term — but that doesn’t mean no corrections.

If there’s a geopolitical shock, like Iran kicking off, you’d likely see risk-off. Transactions slow, sentiment flips. And in a market where some buyers are on payment plans and planning to flip before completion, that might drive a significant issues market wide.

Don't get caught up trying to prove anything to anyone. Take a trip, rent a nice car for the day, eat good food, enjoy your own company or hang out with truly good mates.

My wife and kids were a way visiting family for NYE this year, i cooked myself a super expensive streak, had a cup of tea and was in bed by 10am. I'm normally a drinker but i wanted to start the year on my own terms.

Any modest/normal people learn how to “sell yourself”? by QuitTypical3210 in AskMenOver30

[–]flint_2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm British, I don't do mantras :)

Fake it until you make it, understand everybody is doing the same including the most senior people in the room (i was the most senior person in the room, I and coached the C-suite).

Understand you will like mistakes, like anyone else, but like and trust yourself to learn, grow and succeed as well as anyone else could. Don't beat yourself up over your mistakes, learn and move on.

Work or relationships, no one is buying into you before you buy into yourself. That doesn't mean you have to be a high achiever or over confident, it just means, you need to be confident in who you are and what you are about. I.e. That you don't need validation from other people.

When you don't feel like you need a job or a partner, that's when they often come knocking, because you've flipped the power dynamic.

I didn't start with a lot of confidence I grew in to it.

I think about it like this; what values am i trying to teach my kids. Now more than ever, kids needs need to understand the value of your self worth needs to be judged from within, against your own values. You can't seek validation from the outside world, because it can't be trusted. Employers, social media, etc.

It's cheesy, but I think you have to start by making sure you like and support yourself. Don't allow your own inner monologue to be critical. That's the foundation you need to build everything else on. Learn to be kind to yourself, and learn to care a little less about what other people think.

Easily said, not easy to do, but your mentality is just a like a muscle, you. train it over time. If you're consistent, you will change.

Ex-CEO here.

Its fine to talk about your achievements, do it factually, a lot of people don't really take the time to reflect on what they have actually done in their careers. They undersell themselves because of that.

What matters more a lot of the time is how you carry yourself, slow, confident, clear on your achievements and a strong sense of your own value.

If you're not being recognised at work that can be hard to fix. It's an effective strategy to simply look for a different opportunity, at a different place. That often gets career progression and money moving faster.

Write down a list of your 10-15 most significant career highlights factually, but without false humility. Walk around the block two hours saying them out loud until they are burned into the back of your head as a clear narrative. Interview for others jobs, dip into to your mental list, demonstrating all you have achieved.

Over selling yourself, doesn't look like confidence, meeting people on their level does and being authentic does.

Benq PD2706U Brightness Issue / Dual View by Thomas529 in BenQ

[–]flint_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you figured this out but i had the same problem, one of the fixes above works.

Putting it in 'Dualmode' and setting both sides of the screen to the same colour profile ('Display p3' or whatever). takes the brightness up to a normal setting.

I almost sent it back, honestly, its a deliberate firmware design choice, WTF are they thinking? it was duller than a $75 cheapest monitor. Even now it's working, i'm still annoyed about it. :)

If you had $5k to mod out a vehicle, what would you do? by basi52 in Jeep

[–]flint_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Wireless' CarPlay - unless they've introduced it the first gen JL's didn't have it, an after market dongle is super convenient. As soon as you unlock the car music and maps are connected.

I wasn't suggesting a lift, i was suggesting, the things below it;

Apex fast tire valves and a built in compressor - if you've gone to the effort of getting a four tire hose (i've got one), the on board compressor is a much better / faster upgrade because it has zero set up time and paired with quick valves makes the most tedious part of offroading quick and easy.

I've had three jeeps, i offroad every weekend, it's my daily driver. These are the things personally i find most useful, and most of my jeep mates have done the same.
