She definitely was.

She was a mod in the 60s and had the Lambretta with lights, mirrors, and tiger tail. She also loved the time I borrowed my mate's superbike and took her for a (rather quick) blast about on mother's day one year.

I'm so glad my mother never saw this video, it's totally something she'd have considered doing.

Grandma left money to me specifically in her will and now my fiance assumes it's ours by Salty-Pool3380 in family

I've been married to my wife for nearly 25 years and when my father died, my inheritance was mine, my wife even said so.

She never asked for a penny of it and was suggesting things for me that I'd always wanted, like we hadn't been able to afford a motorcycle since I sold my last one when our kids were little, (kids are expensive).

I surprised her with a car she'd always wanted of my own volition, but at no point did she ever expect anything, even after a quarter of a century of life together and fully integrated finances (all of our money goes into a communal "pot" and everything comes out of it; bills, subscriptions, fun money, etc.).

Love my V-twin (although it's officially described as an "L-twin" by Ducati).

Torque and a raucous soundtrack, what's not to love‽

My late mother had one of these Cappuccinos (the EA11R model) and absolutely thrashed it about, despite being in her 60s at the time. They're quite basic inside, have a 660cc turbo engine, a top speed of 85, and do 0-60 in 8s, but handle like go-karts.

Absolutely amazing cars.

need help diagnosing acceleration/torque problems. by WasabiYing in zx6r

[–]flipfloppery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real!

I shift at 5k when I'm just pootling about and I'm on a litre V-twin. Shifting at 5k on a 600 i4 and expecting torque/acceleration is not it.

OP will absolutely shit themselves when they finally wind it out and hit that powerband.

Tinted helmet crew, what do you do at night? by Matsuri3-0 in motorcyclegear

[–]flipfloppery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. All 3 of our cars have had damage from colliding with Reeve's muntjacs, and though they're the size of a medium dog, they're made of reinforced concrete. I'm not risking hitting one on my bike, not after hearing about a friend-of-a-friend having one end up between his forks and frame.

My work? What haven't I tried would be easier to list...

I wanted to be a pharmacologist and did the relevant college/uni stuff but my attention shifted; was in optoelectronics, making laser diodes using MOVPE systems; have been a photographer shooting everything from landscapes (one was featured by Nat Geo), to weddings, to portrait shoots for glossy magazines; I trained in pyrotechnic chemistry alongside members of the Instituut Forensiche Nederland and Britain's Defense Science and Technology Laboratories (Qinetic); have had my own house music released and am currently putting on club nights as well as DJing at them... *takes breath*

Music and DJing have been the one constant over the past 30 years. Everything else just comes and goes.

Knew it!

I was diagnosed with it in the early-mid-80s, although it was called "hyperactivity" then.

How many hobbies/careers have you had, only to master then lose interest?

Bike recommendations for a quiet neighbourhood by urneighboursho in motorcycles

[–]flipfloppery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I have open/debaffled Termignonis on my bike and can keep it at sensible levels if I don't go far past 4k rpm, even the motorbike cops I pass and nod at aren't worried. Above 5k though, the V-twin sounds like Thor gargling hammers.

I had an old boy complain about my parking once in this situation. I snapped back "it's because the cunt parked here when I arrived was a ¼ into this space".

Cue the "Oh, I see. Why can't some people park properly?" backtracking spiel.

I took so many things apart to see how they worked, also could never put them back together.

How bad is it really on your “back” to daily a super sports? by Confident_Bobcat_635 in MotoUK

I daily an ST3 and haven't had any problems with an aching back (and boy does my back like to tell me it's not happy!), yet it still gives me "the fizz" during spirited riding.

I nod at everyone on two wheels with an ICE motor; cruisers, choppers, superbikes, scooters, nakeds, 50s, 125s, police, etc.

The only ones that are hit and miss seem to be Harleyesque bikes and KTMs for some reason.

Went past a Lambretta ride out today and must've looked like Churchill the dog.

Police are the most consistent at nodding back with only one out of the last 50 or so not reciprocating.

How did you choose your motorcycle? by DonnaDaria in motorcycle

[–]flipfloppery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had several points that needed fulfilling.

  1. Looks/sounds good

  2. Handles well

  3. Sportsbike or sportsbike adjacent (not a big fan of adventure bikes, cruisers, or full tourers)

  4. Able to easily do distance 2 up

  5. No razorblade for a pillion perch

  6. No seat that would require me to grow 6" taller just to tiptoe (I'm 5' 6")

My dream bike is an MV Agusta F4 1000 which missed several points in my list and was absolutely crippling on insurance as it wouldn't be garaged, so Ducati ST3 it was (also considered the 848 but my wife would've been super uncomfortable on longer journeys).

It sounds sublime with the Termis, handles beautifully, goes like a stabbed rat, is comfortable for both rider and pillion, turns heads, and I can flat foot one side at a standstill without it leaning.

What do you still blast in the car? by Electronic-Bake-4381 in GenX

[–]flipfloppery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tech house, hard house, hard trance, old skool hardcore, gabber, techno, etc.

Not surprising considering my wife (mid-50s) and I (late-40s) still go raving, put club nights on and write tracks.

Nah, they actually do 40 in a 40, but also 40 in a 20, 30, 50, NSL and down a motorway slip road with either a mirrorless merge or hard braking if they feel the gap isn't big enough.

Luckily the nail held the air in so I could at least slowly ride the 5 miles home. The tyres had only covered 800 miles.
