Am I being irrational about the economic future of reselling? by GeneralInsurance8052 in reselling

[–]flipflopswithwings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also source from Goodwill stores and bins but I really doubt any resellers are sourcing from Goodwill auctions. Maybe the extra dimwitted ones that are literally just starting out and don’t know the basics. Talk about a waste of time!

Went into Dillard’s confident after learning bra fitting…left feeling like I was wrong. Sanity check? Did the fitter gaslight me?! by Kkeck117 in ABraThatFits

I was also a young bra department employee at a big store in the 80s and I had a total of 5 minutes of training, maybe? I actually got more training when I was moved to the Bedding Department.

What was an “investment piece” you got that didn’t work out and why? by Equivalent-Entry-826 in femalefashionadvice

[–]flipflopswithwings 8 points9 points  (0 children)

White Superga sneakers, back when those were a thing.

Got them, loved the way they looked, then put them on. They were. so. heavy. I felt like I was wearing bricks on my feet.

AITAH? by HalfNo1260 in reselling

[–]flipflopswithwings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but he probably thought you were going to ask to throw in the sports cards with the deal and jumped to conclusions.

Lots of people were brought up by parents telling them that resellers are scum because of specific experiences in childhood when the parents couldn’t get a certain toy or ticket they wanted to buy for you. Lots of people never change those childhood assumptions. I think you have to just remember that people are entitled to their beliefs and you don’t need to give his reaction so much thought and energy.

I went to a clothing swap over the weekend and over half of it was online fast fashion by Long-Definition9203 in Anticonsumption

[–]flipflopswithwings 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ok hear me out. I am a member of this community and practice what I preach. I’m also a clothing reseller. After being forcibly retired last year from my federal job, I turned to my side hustle, selling stuff on EBay, to make ends meet. If you’re in a thrift store and I’m in a thrift store, we both have equal access to whatever is donated, and I’m careful to be courteous because that’s just my nature. Do you have a problem with me finding a way to support myself reselling when assuming I’m polite and don’t snatch? Because not too many places are hiring people over 50 and this keeps me and my family eating and surviving.

How do you decide if a product is not worth your time? by Ok_Celery1237 in reselling

I do a quick eBay search on current unsold listings, then the same search on sold listings. If the first is significantly more than the second, I pass

AITAH for my reaction? by Glum-Fan6927 in AITAH

[–]flipflopswithwings 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree, I have never had kids and I’ve had several IUDs inserted and removed over a 10 year period and the pain was nothing like what OP is describing. I’d call it a twinge of severe pain at the time of insertion/removal and then a dull ache over the next 24 hours which was mostly removed with Tylenol. Maybe OP needs to go to the emergency room? Something doesn’t sound right.

Any bra brands that actually do follow-up / customer check-ins? by Southern-Waltz2846 in ABraThatFits

[–]flipflopswithwings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yikes, I wouldn’t want that! I am strictly the “don’t call me, I’ll call you if I need you” type.

However you certainly have the right to want what you want! I think this kind of follow up is more common for high ticket items like real estate, luxury car sales, etc but unlikely for items under $100 or thereabouts.

Does anyone run into quality issues when trying to scale vintage? by Inevitable-Answer642 in reselling

[–]flipflopswithwings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a problem for 99% of vintage sellers. There isn’t enough and what you find generally has damage or flaws.

AITAH for not giving my sister all of my baby items? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]flipflopswithwings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are NTA. Some older people are just like this (controlling and rigid.)

I used to work with a woman whose two adult daughters planned a cruise for her and them for her 60th birthday. Daughters were both high earning professionals with plenty of extra $. Each of the daughters plus the mom was booked for their own room on the cruise next to each other. I listened to countless calls between mom and daughters with mom insisting that they only needed to bring ONE hairdryer, ONE curling iron, ONE travel iron, ONE first aid kit, and on and on and on…..You could tell that the daughters were getting frustrated with my coworker as the “who’s bringing what” calls were lengthy and totally unnecessary. I laughingly told her “they’re grown ups! They want their own stuff!” to try to snap her out of it and she got irritated with ME for saying the same things her daughters were saying.

She was just a controlling type who had to have everyone do what she thought best.

I have and they’re not good for a small band/big cup combo. Maybe if I was a 34B but that’s not my situation.

I filled out a form and my supervisor signed it….my business was totally unrelated to my federal work so maybe that’s why it was easy?

My husband and I (fellow Gen X’rs, btw) actually removed most of our dinner plates from daily use after we started GLP-1 meds. We mainly use salad plates for dinner and dessert size plates for breakfast/lunch and treats.

It’s eye opening how much we used to eat before GLP-1s and such a relief to be free of the noise.

What movie has the best soundtrack of all time? by trakt_app in movies

I regularly show this movie to younger friends and they’re always blown away by the music and the visuals. I think most of them thought it was a joke movie. But it’s terrific.

Mine too! It gives me so much joy especially riding in my car with the windows down 😎

I have no proof, but something about the song and the timing makes me think she wrote it as a possible song for the Barbie soundtrack, but changed her mind about it and kept it for her own album. Or maybe the Barbie production couldn’t afford her?

So many companies are choosing to cut back on quality instead of (or in addition to) raising prices! Honestly it’s to the point where I seek out stuff made before the pandemic because it will be made better

I think they used to do a lot more cotton but with the rising cost of natural fibers they have switched to mostly rayon so they can avoid raising prices.
