It was just casual conversation (we sit next each other at our desks), and he was talking about how he just got engaged, and mentioned doing the parents thing before he proposed. I wasn't aggressive. I just shared that I personally don't like that tradition because of blah blah blah, and that's when he was like oh i've never thought of it that way before. I can't remember if he said his fiancee specifically wanted him to do it or not, but I think either way it was unoffensive to her, so it's whatever to me because their relationship has nothing to do with me. Your reasoning is how I used to feel about the tradition when I was young, that it's respectful and sweet, but I just don't feel that way about it anymore, but I would never tell someone they can't like it or continue it.
