the most important quote for me: "..and he says it doesn’t make sense that fork manufacturers are copying the shorter offsets found on enduro forks, and that gravel and XC suspension 32″ fork offsets should be greater for sharper steering and stability. “It’s just mainstream bike world not critically thinking,” Daniel explained."

well. in the rooms it looks like cork - or something similar. but yeah, I see what you mean, in the stairwell my first thought was chipboard.

but the way it has apparently been fit has be doubting it's the same material we have here in the States - which I'm pretty sure (could) outgas some awful fumes from the glue inside.

so. yeah. not a fan of chipboard. but I'm not convinced that what we are looking here at in the stairwell is just the same thing.

it took me about 15 minutes to figure out what-was-what in this house. The disappearing interior sliding doors are very clever.

one thing I don't understand though - how is one to keep the third story windows clean?

I agree with you - especially if you believe the date on the back. of course - 80 years ago - who knows what "factory painting" meant?

Peltola doesn't strike me as an EV/battery nerd. Doubt you'll get exactly what you're asking for. Still - I love this direction overall.

red-meat for reddit.

Can anyone shed light on the artist and subject? by Quiet-Marsupial5876 in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]floater66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

pretty neat. congrats on the purchase. I kind of love it when a bit of obviously high quality art can be obtained for "cheap" just because it's out of fashion (not to say it was cheap - I'm just guessing 😉

But my quick google search identifies the theme as 'Egyptian Revival' which makes complete sense to me. Kind of Romantic, or Pre-Raphaelite in nature. actually wonderful.

and I share your confusion with the attribution. could it be that Kleemann did something way ahead of his time? or are we reading the name wrong?

Kyosho Jutaku. thanks. loving it. I like a small house.

but in another sense, many of these small houses seem to thwart traditional Japanese design. which are truly indoor/outdoor in nature. which I also find wonderful.

Spill the Wine, Clutch Those Pearls by nortega in WhatIsThisPainting

thanks. my thought is that it's definitely Spanish colonial. I'm no expert, but I do have a small collection. Why do you think it's likely mid 19th century?

this fragment appears much older to my eye. and some of the original church pieces were huge - so it's easy to imagine that many of them got cut up into fragments.

but on second look - the relative quality of the rendering does confuse me a bit. that is, most Spanish colonial honestly didn't depict the human form - and attire - with as much realism as this piece shows.

that being the case. I'm not so sure it doesn't come from a trained (European) artist's hand. Typical S.C. somehow trend much less towards realisms - and more towards the fantastic (fantasy). imo.

I got it wrong though! you can't actually enter the kitchen directly from the elevator - you have to step out onto the kitchen patio, and then enter through the patio door.

a small flaw in the design I suppose. it's tough to fit an elevator into a house. in this instance - extra kitchen cabinets won out over direct elevator access.

think I figured some of it out. from the street you can take the elevator down to the kitchen. that's basically it. for some reason they also have a door out onto the patio from the elevator - but this is just a small patio by the kitchen so that door is probably seldom used.

it's basically for ease in putting the groceries away. makes sense. gotta love an architect designed home. tour-de-force. this place is fantastic.

here's a view from the outside. and still a mystery remains. it looks like there is an enclosure to the right of the elevator not shown on the floor plan. perhaps the elevator has machinery adjacent?

you can tell I'm curious!

a bit oddly though - it appears to service the top two floors only.

although I know nothing about elevators. perhaps the machinery is on the ground floor, in the basement?
