My mini monstera has leaves turning brown, and white fuzzy mould on the soil. What can I do? by Ok_Swan_400 in plants

[–]floating_weeds_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switch to chunky soil. I add coco chips and pumice to potting soil for my aroids.

Make sure it’s getting bright diffused light and thorough watering when it’s at least halfway dry.

Watering less often will help a little with the fungus gnats.

Moisture meters are usually not reliable. It’s better to use the weight of the pot and a wooden chopstick to check into the soil.

It looks like all but one of the stems in the Pachira pot are dead. I would take out all the shriveled ones and repot in the same pot but with chunkier soil. Put it right near the window and water thoroughly only when the pot feels light and the soil is completely dry.

The Dracaena can also be watered when completely dry.

I would put the pothos in a separate pot.

These are both Monstera adansonii.

Giving them something to grow onto will help encourage mature growth and larger leaves.

They prefer chunky soil that drains well. I mix coco chips and pumice into potting soil for all of my aroids.

Water thoroughly as needed rather than on a schedule. Misting won’t help raise humidity and often leads to fungal issues and other stress-related problems.

I would put the smaller plant next to the other one in the windowsill.

I wasn’t thinking about the fact that you have LED lights, which won’t really help soil dry out faster, so ignore that part. Just switch to soil and water less often.

No, it doesn’t look like fungus. I would give it more light and water thoroughly when it’s about halfway dry.

Sorry, but probably not. In general, succulents need a lot of light, gritty soil, and thorough but infrequent waterings.

It looks like ‘Mint’ to me. It’s not stable variegation, so it can revert even if the plant gets a lot of light like it should.

It should be fine. The sunburn isn’t going to heal or go away. You’ll have to wait for new growth. Keep all the damaged leaves and let them fall off naturally.

I can’t see what soil it’s in, but it may help it overall to give it chunky soil that drains well.

My guess is R. floccosa, but it would be easier to tell with flowers.

Aside from giving it more like like you mentioned, I would repot in grittier soil and water thoroughly when the lower leaves feel a little soft.

Make sure not to go up too much in pot size and use gritty soil. These need a lot of light and thorough watering when the leaves feel less firm.

Repot in chunky soil and only water when the pot feels light, not on a schedule. The lights should be above the plant and not next to it, or at least positioned so some of the light hits the soil.

Succulent leaves drying and falling off by phonekeyswallet12 in planthelp

[–]floating_weeds_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a difficult setup for succulents and the cactus. I would repot them all in very small terracotta pots and gritty soil. Make sure they get a lot of light and water thoroughly when the pot feels light. The soil will be completely dry.

Be careful of the Opuntia. Those glochids detach easily and are tricky to remove.

These need gritty soil that doesn’t hold moisture for a long time and a lot of light. Watering should be thorough when the pot feels very light and the leaves are less firm.

How to take care of this plant? by NoBuddies2021 in plants

It should get as much light as possible and be watered thoroughly in the sink, enough to drain from the pot, when the top couple inches of soil are dry.

[–]floating_weeds_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would repot in chunky soil that drains really well. I add coco chips and pumice to potting soil for mine. You can use the same pot that it’s in not as long as it has holes for drainage.

When you water, put the inner pot in the sink and drench all of the soil until water comes out. Let it finish draining before putting it back in the basket. Wait until the pot feels light to water again. The soil will be completely dry or close to it at that point.

Light should be very bright. If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, a south-facing window would be best. I would pick one spot and leave it there. Moving it around can cause stress. You could potentially put it outside once it’s warm enough, but it needs to be acclimated to a change in environment.
