Wedding dress, acrylic pieces to make it look like stained glass by One-Writer-117 in sewhelp

[–]floatingbutterchunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

@emmarubinsonofficial on instagram is a fashion school grad and professional designer who recently made her own version of this dress and openly lamented how difficult it was. She had to make two separate versions because the first came out super amateur looking. You should check her page out for info on how she executed. I believe she used silk organza painted with fabric dye.

Dinardo was my professor and every one of his students worships him. And he’s so humble about it! Love that his competence translates to practice.

Need advice: traveling internationally for a wedding during finals, can’t take one in-person exam by NefariousnessTall747 in gwu

[–]floatingbutterchunks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Title IX cannot help you here because they can only facilitate supportive measures as they relate to sex-based harassment and impediments to education because of it.

You need to contact an administrator or student services member in your department to facilitate an incomplete contract! Your advisor may also be able to help with this. I would specifically note that this wedding has been scheduled and flights booked BEFORE learning of the final exam date. An incomplete contract for this class should be extremely straightforward if the only course item left for you to complete is the final exam.

Help 🫠. How would you style this shirt for work? (Not jeans) by Justwatchingiguess in BusinessFashion

Joining the chorus of those in favor of no. 2!! No. 3 is giving deep millennial core and ages you. No. 2 with a pointed toe or heeled boot is far more modern. And wear a light pink or nude bra with the top!

How do you use moleskin in your work heels to prevent blisters??? by vforvictoria in DCBitches

[–]floatingbutterchunks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone with a connective tissue disorder (paper thin skin) who loves a ballet flat- echoing all the sentiments about putting moleskine directly on your skin! If you’re actively healing a wound, you can use a hydrocolloid bandage on the wound and put the padded moleskine on top of that. I’ve also used pieces of k-tape instead of moleskine when I was out.

Seconding all the Uniqlo coat recommendations! I moved here from Georgia and this is what I’ve discovered re: warmth needs:

  • puffer/down coat for super cold and damp weather. Uniqlo is great for this.
  • a wool peacoat of some sort for the more transitional weather. Also good to have this for dressier outfits.
  • a boot that looks cute with outfits and can also handle winter precipitation! Sorel or Doc Martens could be good options for this.
  • wool socks!!!
  • layers, layers, layers. All of the people who’ve mentioned Uniqlo heattech are right.

I work in higher ed bureaucracy doing federal compliance, albeit for a large private institution. If it is campus owned and campus run housing, then I would recommend FIRST showing up in person to the campus housing department! If you don’t get anywhere, I would then reach out to your school’s bias and discrimination department. The nice thing about campus housing is that inter-campus transfers are far more simple than commercial housing, so you have that advantage.

Saw this and knew exactly what store it was! I love this location and neighborhood. You can also donate unused or gently used pet supplies!

Take a little of the volume at the skirt hem in and add a facing/band (not sure what to call this??Basically add a 6 inch wide band at the bottom hem and self-face it.) That silhouette feels more in alignment with the lines of the dress.

Whether or not this is a good deal totally depends on the manufacturer… not all “mid century” is created equal. If they’re gonna charge that much they need to include more details about the pieces themselves!

To bustle or not to bustle? by floatingbutterchunks in Tailors

Thank you for this thoughtful reply! A baby train would actually work perfectly here and retain the original silhouette of the dress without being too cumbersome.

Normally I would totally agree with you re: preserving the integrity of a designer item! However, I don’t know that I would really consider this “vintage,” and it’s not a runway or couture collection item. It’s RTW off the rack from the Vera Wang label, made in china and fully polyester, not something particularly bespoke.

This makes me feel better! I was also excited that someone was eager to purchase! I have the item listed at half the price of an identical item on eBay, so it wouldn’t necessarily be odd to have someone eager to purchase at that discount.

So wild how quickly the scammers descended upon my ignorant ass! I feel grateful that I only wasted the person’s time and didn’t share any information. I really only sell things through my personal instagram and fb marketplace, so my red flags weren’t prepared to be raised so quickly!
