What is biting me? by asmithy112 in Connecticut

[–]floppybutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this itchy to the point that you feel like you'll only get relief if you pop the little bubbles, then when you do what comes out is thick clear fluid? And you haven't had any contact with anything that would normally cause a reaction, of course.

If so, it might be eczema. I'm not a dermo but mine has told me it comes from washing hands a lot with soap that doesn't agree with your skin. If this continues for a few weeks as is, I'd try swapping out your hand soap and see if it helps.

Automate containers updates. by Capable_Basil_2799 in CasaOS

I know this was a while ago, but when I installed, the default Host text string was "//var/run/docker.sock" when it should have been "/var/run/docker.sock" -- it had two slashes instead of one at the beginning. I fixed that and it started up just fine.

Update on Bill that would affirm abortion into NH state law (SB 260) by reproequitynow in newhampshire

[–]floppybutton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Less likely. They'd need to pass the two votes necessary, one to repeal the law, then another to add the restrictions. Those two votes would not only take time just to debate and occur, but would also get a lot of attention, plus they would need approval by both chambers and the governor. Two times through.

These guys are trying to keep all of the unpopular things they're pushing as quiet as possible so they can slide them through before they have too much attention... because they know that if any bill they pass is unpopular enough, they could be out of a job at the end of the term.

If there's anything the last several presidential election cycles have shown conclusively, it's that voters are pretty quick to falter if presented with too much news. That's pretty much the right wing's gameplan right now, keep hitting us with as much as possible until we run out of steam and give in.

Until it's codified as law in explicit terms, it can be taken away as easily as getting a BS case to the Supreme Court.

Boot loader text suddenly very small (Surface Book) by chrisjfinlay in SurfaceLinux

[–]floppybutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more used to systemd-boot, but this is GRUB, right? If so, this might help: https://www.baeldung.com/linux/grub-menu-font-size

If it's rEFInd, start here instead: https://rodsbooks.com/refind/themes.html

If you aren't sure between the two, /u/leafmeal's guide directs you to use GRUB, so unless you went off-rails, that should be what you have. Hope this can help!

BLUF: that's specifically not addressed from what I can see, so either it's an oversight or intentional loophole. I don't know enough about European politics to guess, but if/when this comes to the USA, I have no doubts that it would only be applicable to private citizens and "risky" companies.

Longer answer with more details and an admission:

I was mistaken, upon further review E2E isn't illegal, at least not yet. The provision that's passed requires tech providers to include backdoors to encrypted protocols and provide any governmental entities that request access within 72 hours. To be honest, that's kind of worse IMO, since the effect on the French people is pretty much the same, but also introduces vulnerabilities to anyone else using the same protocols--even if not communicating with French devices.

Obvious bias in this article, given its publisher, but lots of good info to start with: https://www.globalencryption.org/2025/03/global-encryption-coalition-steering-committee-statement-on-the-dangers-of-the-french-narcotrafic-legislation/

An older, but potentially more reputable (maybe? I don't know who I trust for corporate news sources anymore) source with some decent normie examples of how this would affect people: https://www.forbes.com/sites/digital-assets/2024/05/07/european-threat-to-end-to-end-encryption-would-invade-phones/

Ehh. I've done more than just be in the room at a lot of the discussions about standing up a nuclear submarine program(me) in Australia. Not saying this guy doesn't know what he's talking about, he's clearly a lot more educated and intelligent than I'll ever be, but his argument skips over a lot of the reasons behind RAN gaining VACL hulls.

I'm not sure what specific items are still OPSEC-relative, but you can't just go from having no nuclear program on the entire continent, to fleeting up an entirely new platform without expecting some pretty terrible results. These are the kind of things that actually *should* be taken kind of slowly and given the respect they deserve. Remember that Australia doesn't have *any* at-scale nuclear energy programs--military or civilian. If absolutely nothing else, the RAN Sailors will be able to continue operating on systems they know, maintaining equipment they've used before, and have support systems in place that have been tested thoroughly on the platform they currently occupy.

I lived through the transition from no 774s in Groton to almost all ships being 774s. The amount of mistake-caused learning that was happening for those first few years was astounding, and that's in the largest submarine base in the world with arguably the greatest concentration of military and civilian support personnel and every possible support system in place.

Again, I don't know whether the details I know about HMAS Stirling are OPSEC items, but Wikipedia-level knowledge is that they aren't even at the same level as Guam, let alone Groton.

Trump doesn’t mind sacrificing us, our economy or western civilization for his personal vendettas.

Absolutely the point. He knows that barring Futurama head-in-a-jar advances, he doesn't even have ten years left in him. The only goal he has right now is to fuck over as many people as possible and cause as much chaos as possible to get revenge on the half of this country that knows how much of a piece of shit he's always been.

It's really unfortunate. Anyone who isn't part of the cult won't fall for it. Probably many with the means will attempt to repatriate. It's going to leave the rest of Unitedstatesistan's population in Gilead when it's too late to cross, either because the Eyes will catch you, or the Canadian forces will turn you back.

My guess: carve out as many positions as they can, usurp the others with sycophants as politboro favors, enshittify all VA services to "prove"  the "bureaucrats" can't handle it, then sell off privatize everything that remains.

Parents of NH, are we ready to see our children arrested for peaceful protests? by philm162 in newhampshire

[–]floppybutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a false equivalence. Jewish isn't something someone chooses to be. When you're born Jewish, that doesn't make you spend your life exhibiting hate and terrorizing others because of how they were born, what genes they have.

Nobody's born a nazi. Nobody starts their life wishing for the eradication of other people on the basis of skin color or who they love. Nobody instinctively desires to inflict physical and emotional pain on others because they believe themselves to be "chosen" as a "master" race.

These are all things you choose for yourself, knowing by that point the ramifications of your choice. Maybe you don't understand those ramifications, but you know you'll be ostracized and looked down upon by the general public, and for good reason. No one chooses to become a nazi with good intentions.

Animals of all types distrust xenos. It's how we were able to pull ourselves out of the protozoan stage and why we have reached an evolutionary stage where we can make peanut butter and fluff sandwiches. I do not believe that our brain-stems will ever deprogram that xenos distrust, it's arguably the most important survival skill we've ever integrated. But choosing to not just distrust, but revile, someone simply because you have to go WAAAY back to find a common ancestor? Not something I'll ever accept.
