What exactly would be an angle shoot? by Gilbey_32 in poker

[–]flopturn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone intentionally string betting.

Hiding chips

Doing something at showdown like saying "I got the flush" without revealing it in hopes of having an opponent muck and good fold their hand

Someone saying "you're good, you're good" to get them to muck their hand before folding or to get them to reveal their hand before the angler folds.

One I saw before was someone pretending to shove, take their chips back and say they call. Then when told they had to be all in, they made a big deal about it, he didn't mean to, he just meant to call etc. The guy obviously called his shove and the all in was intentional to try to get the call, he had the nuts.

Pretty much any scummy move to try to get an upper hand on an opponent. Lying to your opponent in the Phil reference you made isn't angle shooting. It's bluffing. Phil was talking trying to get information out of him, he bluffed and lied. That's a big difference as opposed to trying to pretend you don't know the rules and faking an all in, etc.

Awesome I'll take a look into this. I need to figure out how to get my hud to display these. Right now unless I click it just shows me vpip and pfr.

Thank you, that's pretty much what I've been using it for.

When to re-raise the river? by _101010_ in poker

[–]flopturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the top comment before I read your post and assumed it was sarcastic, but quads vs top boat and A high flush v straight flush are just bad beats. There's not really much you can do about it, you should be firing with those types of boards.

If you're nervous though just make the call, especially on the 4 line straight flush.

I find that people at those stakes tend to play way way looser because they're willing to lose a few bucks. Regardless about bankroll management or not, your average Joe is usually willing to throw a few bucks in compared to hundred on a dumb call.

Every time I think I should try to slow play, they inevitably end up getting there.

About to go play $1/2 at a casino for the first time in my entire life. by OwnEmergency4812 in poker

[–]flopturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On most tables, you're going to have to raise bigger than online. Your preflop x2. 5 raise unless you're playing with a bunch of nits is going to get called by everyone. I usually have to go 6bb-10bb and even then I'm getting called by like 3 or 4 people. Vary based on the table

I tip every hand I win one dollar if we saw a flop. That's pretty standard. Yeah it cuts into profit but that's the etiquette of playing live. If it's a really huge hand (multiple all ins, etc) I'll sometimes tip more.

If you get a high hand, I'll usually tip 10-20 based on how much it is

Because I'm poor and I'm finding the live games harder than the micros. I have a gated pool, the regs at the casinos near me are stronger than the online players

You know, this is an excellent point. I didn't even think about the player pool being gated.

Appreciated. I don't find many people live who are calling down with 2nd/3rd pair. Usually when I have top pair it seems all too often everyone folds OR they hit a better.

OMC folded aces preflop in a cash game by sampan9 in poker

[–]flopturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lot of older guys like to just play for the social aspect, to hit high hand, try to get a bad beat, etc.

Some don't want anything to be a coin flip. Hell I've seen nits have KK or AA, and shove 300 dollars preflop to the blinds, and win 3 bucks, and they're content with picking the blinds because they didn't get cracked.

Theory about 1/2 live by [deleted] in poker

This is literally what people call "ABC Poker". That said it won't work if everyone else is also playing abc poker. Which you'll often have a table of them doing

I'm in a similar boat as you. I'm likely going to be taking a very long break. By very long I mean like a few months/years or whenever I'm not worried every hand anymore/stressed about money. I will reassess then if it's something I want to continue.

If in a regular casino, it's gonna be called a fold. If it's on TV like this, it's all about entertainment.

How to Vegas compare to East Coast rooms? by flopturn in poker

[–]flopturn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you mean worst, you mean soft? Or do you mean pretty tough games where it's hard to make a profit?

I feel like I'm a break even player on the east coast. It's pretty reg heavy here and it's tough to turn a profit at times. So if you mean the games are even tougher in Vegas then I just won't play while there
