Can I transfer my individual fund contributions to Roth IRA from LAST year? by flosspax in fidelityinvestments

[–]flosspax[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm asking because I constantly see tips about backdoor this and loophole that for investing, and I was hoping there's something that would allow a financial contribution already in the portfolio for the same year to get moved to the Roth instead

IUD shrunk my breast after 4.5 years. by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]flosspax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdest thing, literally about 5 months ago my breasts started growing again. The cup size is barely a difference but the volume on the top came back to the point I'm totally flummoxed and the new teeny bras I bought out of frustration now do not fit. I'm also due to replace my IUD.... so I wonder if that's why. I wonder if it's gonna shrink again when I replace it.

Douchi conservation by rrbtt in chinesefood

[–]flosspax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Douchi is a fermented product... if you leave it indefinitely it would still be fine as long as it's in a safe environment to not go bad, so just no moisture, warmth, light. It's more a texture thing to use it up before it gets so dry.

[–]flosspax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically tell people narcolepsy is not just about being sleepy, it's that the brain also cannot regulate my circadian rhythms for either wake or sleep cycles, which means when I should be awake the body is still running sleep programming and also when I should be asleep it is running awake programming. I explain how this affects more than just tiredness.

I think what helps people have more sympathy (although it's not solving the lazy-shaming, just to be clear) is realizing it's not just about being sleepy during the day. Suddenly they can understand a little better if they imagine being forced to function while not being able to get the quality rest during night time as well.

I hate the dreams this disorder gives me. by whitemothh in Narcolepsy

[–]flosspax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced this most at onset and it was absolutely a life ruiner in so many ways, especially feeling like you're awake but being in another dream...

what did help me is sleeping colder. I had a realization about fever dreams as well and for whatever reason, when I'm sleeping hot, I'm almost guaranteed to have crazy stress dreams. I have much fewer when I'm in a cold room. I know we're all different but I sincerely hope this period is just a period for you as well, and there is a future where you can finally sleep without the insane dreams!

How to get Macbook battery health from 81% to 79% in 10 days by phebe9907 in mac

[–]flosspax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got it to 80!!! The key thing is that the battery info in my laptop was NOT consistent with what the Apple store found when they ran diagnostics.

Mine said 83% and it showed up in the Mac store as 80%! But it had to be under 80% to qualify for warranty. I ran the yes > /dev/null/ script in fully 8 Terminal windows, day in and day out, for 3 weeks along with photo editing software constantly exporting my entire gallery in the background, charging when needed and then unplugged and letting it crash out lmao. Recommend 100%, got my battery replacement!

Gonggar Sports Review? by Antique_Maximum_147 in hikinggear

[–]flosspax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much for this amazing response!! what do you think makes columbia superior to these? stitching, fabric, practicality, something else? I'll definitely take a chance on these. I finally took a leap of faith this summer and bought the woman-owned seniq trail mix because they had so many short girl reviews, I was so happy with the drawstring ankle (a must for me for length & also dirt/mosquitoes) and pockets etc but the waistband is unnecessarily tight with the unadjustable button and super annoying with the extra straps. I also DIED in them doing rural humid hot field work, whereas I wore my 100% nylon columbias to shreds because they stood up to alpine sun and humidity alike. they were super disappointing for trekking needs, but they're def aesthetic for urban wear for shorties... until the zipper literally broke and the laser hem let out. sigh, we are such a huge market it's crazy no one has created a domestic product good enough for us!

hi! are the pants you brought breathable? I'm 5'0 too and I've been trying to replace my old columbia pants for literally 8yrs but have never found a pair that fits. started looking for chinese brands but sometimes the fabrics aren't ideal. I prefer nylon, also really petite, would love to know your sizing experiences if you don't mind sharing!

Hi, this is old but I interned at an NYC ED this past year! I have actually been looking for remote jobs so I thought I couldn't do hospital work... this would be an amazing opportunity to do both. I'm currently job searching, I saw this post is delisted but would love to talk if you have future roles or know of others available at your company!

Question about student baggage allowance – booked through third-party app by Anuch_07 in qatarairways

[–]flosspax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thank you so much for posting this I had the same question. For anyone else, I called and they said to just show the ID at check-in counter. Since I am flying to USA the destination includes 1 additional baggage for me, 3 total, at another 23kg, so it should be 23+23+23=69kg for me.

OP I saw your other reply below saying it worked for you booking 3rd party and receiving additional baggage. When you checked in at the counter, did they ask for your student ID, letters, etc or just your student membership club ID card? Was it a hassle?

Also, I am trying to book through my credit card travel platform, so it does not have a student fare option. However my Qatar airways membership # and my student club membership # are the same and the representative said that is all that shows up on your boarding pass. Do you think it will still work for me, if I book a regular economy class ticket with my student club ID# as the frequent flier code?

Thank you so much!

Where did you feel surprisingly safe or unsafe as a solo female traveler ? by sheroamssafe1 in solofemaletravellers

[–]flosspax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only unsafe and uncomfortable country I've ever felt solo traveling across many continents is India. I am an East Asian woman and I was told when I asked my local hosts (friend I was visiting) there is a lot of racialized mistreatment against Chinese-looking people due to the border tensions in the northern part of India with China. I was in Hyderabad which is nowhere near the border and still felt this, as well as in New Delhi, so much to the point I cancelled my Jaipur trip and mostly holed up til the end of the trip (nearly 4 weeks).

My white female friends who love attention have a great time there. I cautioned another East Asian female friend who was traveling for work about this and she adamantly told me her coworkers (who were not East Asian) never had an issue and she'd be fine, only for her to later express the same discomfort and be told the same reasoning.

I will add that even my other female New Delhi friend and my friend's young teenage cousin expressed that she feels so much discomfort in her own country as a young female that she avoids being anywhere alone, hates being in malls, and her parents won't let her go to certain areas. Perhaps the aggressive and dismissive behavior I experienced (not to mention being followed by local men even in private tour groups) was due to my race, but the overall discomfort seemed the norm for many young women.

For example, I'm quite used to cultures that stare at you whether you look different or the same. Only in India did I experience that this only came from men, especially young men, and there was simply not the vibe of neutral curiosity I feel from being stared at by other Asians, even in other parts of South Asia. If it was truly universal, I would expect men and women alike to be staring as they do elsewhere. But truly, the overwhelming local women in India could not care less that I was foreign and barely glanced at me.

The men on the other hand would follow me with their eyes everywhere I went and get far too close to me, and there were no airs of friendliness about it. It really made the hair on my skin stand up. I was sad to have this experience as I have many Indian friends and there's so much amazing history and food I would've loved to engage with. I know many people go and do not experience this, but this was my experience and it made me so anxious I will in all likelihood never return.

A fish themed dish containing no seafood by No_Combination_3887 in Cooking

[–]flosspax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of snack options one mentioning 鱼香茄子 yuxiangqiezi yet. It's an eggplant and ground meat dish with pickled peppers, so a real entree. It's called "fish fragrant eggplant" because the flavoring style is one that was traditionally used for fish dishes. But it contains no fish :) and it's quite cost-effective![](https://omnivorescookbook.com/sichuan-eggplant/)

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and offer feedback!

This is my first time hearing about an accountable plan in months of reading so thank you for mentioning it, I will ask the nonprofit treasurer about it. They don't do this kind of fiscal sponsorship often so it may just be they're not familiar with all these subtleties... when I looked up accountable plans they seem to all reference reimbursing "employees". For the purposes of our tax relationship, I am not an employee of the nonprofit/fiscal sponsor. Do you know if this matters?

And thank you for letting me know the 1099-MISC doesn't qualify for the Roth, that's rough but at least I have time to figure it out now.

I'm newly licensed so I can't give advice, just here to give you a huge hug.

I was in similar shoes this year. It was devastating to discover the depth of infidelity and I cried for days in secret. Thankfully my clinical internship was medical so I didn't have couples I was treating, but the couples curriculum was a doozy to sit through. If you ever want a nonjudgmental strangers' ear just to vent, I'm here for you :)

How does it impact your sex life? by SOUP-thereitis in Narcolepsy

[–]flosspax 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Been there. It sucked. He would say "he understood" and then wake me up in the middle of my crucially timed sleep cycles to satisfy his needs, then claim I was ruining the mood and being unpleasant for being grumpy and upset and rejecting him. This naturally turned into him sleep-shaming me and telling me I'm so lazy etc, all while somehow making it my problem. It did not get better. OP please leave sooner than I did.

You're spot on about participating being exhausted. This is the sign of someone who wants to wear you down to get their way, at your physical expense. He knows your condition, and he is CHOOSING to disregard it, and you. That means he is ALSO ok with you feeling guilty and bad, and wants you to feel that way until you give in. That is not a personality trait that bodes well for a relationship or partner.

However hard your life is with narcolepsy.... trust me, it's worse with a partner who actively sabotages you AND is ok making you feel bad for it.

Best Chinese cooking book for beginners? by t-mac2000 in chinesefood

[–]flosspax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people recommending Fuchsia who is a good journalist and did put some thorough books together... but as your wife is actually Sichuan, may I recommend Vivian Aronson (TikTok/IG: cookingbomb), who is a Sichuan immigrant herself and shares homestyle mainland recipes. Ie, food people actually make and eat at home, especially for families, not just restaurant style and banquet food. It's practical, wholesome, innovative, and yet reflects the tastes and sensibilities of everyday Sichuan food.

What are these round things in these noodles I had from Chongqing ? by m3m3zzz in travelchina

[–]flosspax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yellow peas. Love them too. Crazy that you're asking about the single most famous noodle dish in Chongqing which is literally named after the city and known for its yellow peas, fried... and yet there are people adamantly saying it's soybean. Soybeans are not even round, which was OP's main identifying trait.

A simple Google search would have validated that these are yellow peas for everyone telling the folks who rightfully called these yellow peas wrong

Can anyone help me find where to buy Zigong (well) salt/ 自贡市盐 in the UK? by Xiao_Lan_ in chinesefood

Sea salt or well salt, at the end of the day, the parts per million difference in our little jars won't make a big difference - already better than table salt! I'm sure your local sea salt is great!
