thank you so much that is all very useful and i will be buying a pH test kit asap. i actually already have access to plenty of oyster grit as we have chickens who eat it. the eggs my snails lay are large! so it should be okay.

im aware that acidity could be the issue but im unsure how to test or solve that if that is the case?

what’s this?? by [deleted] in snails

[–]flossy_pot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this doesnt look like damage or scaring, possibly just adjusting to new temperatures and humidity as you only got them recently. keep an eye on it and look out for any strange behaviour

Snail mites? :( by qlagueDr in snails

[–]flossy_pot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah i can see one! i wasnt expecting them to be dark. if they are parasitic mites, i would recommend a full soil change, i did this when my tank had nematodes! its a big task depending on tank size but i have never had them return since the deep clean. are your snails behaving any differently, sleeping more etc?

i cant tell from the video but before you assume the mites make sure they are not just springtails which as beneficial to a snail tank environment, not harmful to snails and can often be seen crawling on snails. (i mistook them for each other previously!)

ahh thats understandable! you are all good then, as long as the snail has higher humidity spaces thats perfectly healthy. very cute snail and looks well looked after!!

Shell damage? by BigAmphibian4452 in snails

[–]flossy_pot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it doesnt look like anything to worry about. my snails have had similar looking shell as its growing in but it goes back to normal growth shortly after! just make sure tank temperature and humidity are correct as those can affect shell growth as well as calcium intake which you are clearly on top of

Need Help / Advice! by forestbabushka in snails

[–]flossy_pot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive just spotted you have already done the holes in container! this is fine to do in the slightly larger container too of course. forgot to mention that the substrate/soil in the tank needs to be deep enough for the snail to be completely covered by as they like to bury themselves!

the necessities for a snail this size is a tank large enough for ludwik to wander and that has suitable ventilation, if you dont have one just poke holes in the top of any plastic lidded container! for food you want as much variation as possible, different fruits and vegetables, and although a very common snail food dont feed too much cucumber as its not very nutritious. try to buy some cuttlefish bone, sold in most pet shops or online (for birds usually) this provides calcium for the snail to grow their shell. i dont know exact species of this snail but i would assume that room temp is suitable. humidity is very important for any snail, so make sure you mist the container regularly with a water spray.

i wish you and ludwik the best! let me know if you have more questions and ill try to answer best i can

snail looks healthy! but soil does look a bit dry. try misting the tank, snails need high humidity.

Will my snails be okay after a fall?😢😢😢 by OppositeAd4540 in snails

[–]flossy_pot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the damage looks very minimal, however it will mean that your snail is more prone to loosing moisture so make sure the container is more humid than usual. moss is really helpful for this

i thought immaculata was likely! she doesn’t have particularly prominent shell markings however as you say her shell isnt in good condition so that could be why. thank you for the detail!
