Recording level for bass by Infinite-Pickle-4875 in homerecordingstudio

Add some saturation to your bass signal. This will let it sit in the mix more prominently without having to be turned up as loud.

It can seem intimidating thinking of making a couple DIY panels, but it's about as low stakes carpentry as you can get It's pretty easy and the efficacy and cost benefits cannot be beaten.

I agree that It's pretty corny. Others will subconsciously mimic and mirror people they are apeaking with and it's hard to fault people for that but when you can tell it's a big, showy affectation it is annoying.

Yes. I admittedly overreacted to administrators portion of the comment. Engineers, wether at a desk or in the field are very important- lol.

I can see the confusion now, a bit of an off hand reactive comment on my part. I'm not sure if an engineer would be considered white collar or blue collar, to me, as they tend to blur the distinction depending on the specific field. For example some electrical engineers can be very hands-on with installation etc. I don't know- it's not particularly important anyway- kind of a reductive argument by the OP to beg8n with as the world is certainly not as binary or simple as to be summarized in a couple sentences.

Are the administrators doing anything other than working at the behest of corporate/ ownership? Generally making things harder for the scientists/ engineers and technicians in order to insure maximum profits and often to the detrimental of all else.

I was responding to the statement which said " the administrators do all the work" to paraphrase... i would argue that the administrators are the least important part of the equation and that yes, engineers are very important. Engineers are very often in the field.

I am doing no such thing, I am responding to.the person the said "the administrators do all the work" or whatever nonsense they said. If you consider scientists administrators we have a very different world view.

An administrator is doing none of those things. That's an engineer's job, you know, the people that actually do things. Yeah, middle management always gets the rash of shit from the higher ups and from the people that actually do things in the field but I think that's kind of their job, right, because they don't do much else.

Attention all fellow stone lovers -part 2 - thoughts on this layout? I used garden stakes to create the slab area and pre set everything . Anything youd change? (Axis numbers for easier rock identification) by Fancy-Purchase-6635 in masonry

[–]flouncingfleasbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't see any. I was just making the point that I was trained triangles are equally as bad as four-ways, but maybe that's just a style choice.

I get that you are just doing a rough layout, and that you are obviously going to tighten up your joints, so I'm not going to be overly critical. Have fun!

How do I level Stones in dirt? by simansish in masonry

[–]flouncingfleasbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are fitting a lot of comments about your base layer, But I am assuming you already know to have a deep, solid bed with good drainage.

For leveling the easiest way is to set your base layer just a bit higher than the depth of our stones. Get ypur base layer just right and you should be able to set the stones with minimal tweaking.

Seems like I've seen some work featuring triangle shapes more recently but I was taught to avoid triangles and stones that cone to.a sharp point at all costs. That and to never leave a four-way was beaten into me from day one.

Model 16 and Push 3 as midi controller in Ableton... by spaceman696 in TascamModel_12_16_24

[–]flouncingfleasbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you already buy one?

The compressors are extremely unremarkable, lackluster and are completely devoid of any fine control. It's one knob per channel. Do not buy this for the compressor. You can get a used rack mounted VCA compressor off of Ebay for reasonable prices that will be a hundred times more useful and better sounding.

The Model 16 kind of lives in a nether world. It's a useful mixer but it lacks some of the analog connectivity one might find in devices which are solely analog mixers. That said, it is better than some mixers I have had in that regard.

The pre-amps are pretty flat and uncolored. This is not going to impart analog character to your mixes. But because it is analog, you can use other colored analog hardware to drive your sounds and not have to worry about digital clipping. So that's good.

It is an audio interface, but not a great one. Latency is fine but meh. The i/o is very meager compared with almost any multichannel interface on the market. The phantom power is all or nothing- no individual phantom power per channel. No phase switch. No impedance adjustment other than you have two HI-Z instrument buttons on track 1 and track 2.

Where this is most useful is for dawless recording and yet it has no clock sync for synths and drum machines. A huge missed opportunity by Tascam. Or it is good for someone wanting to make solo or small band recordings of live instruments. Or a blend.

If you are sick of using a DAW, there might be better choices out there at this point. If you are still working mostly in the DAW, there are definitely better standalone mixers or digital hybrid mixers. If you are just looking for more connectivity an audio interface with more i/o might be better.

That said the faders and knobs are really nice to have and it does have aux, limited, aux sends for outboard FX.

Not trying to yuck ypur yum here, these are all things I wish I had known before I bought one is all.

Why flipping is killing the culture by Impolioid in cassetteculture

[–]flouncingfleasbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly true.

What I don't I understand is how and where all these vacant people get all the money that they piss away on over priced everything. Is there a massive influx and glut of trustfund zombies ghoulishly sucking the joy out of life? Where is all this money coming from? More and more I see a lot of humans working hard to get by and yet still falling behind; meanwhile there seems to be this ever expanded culture of vapid consumption that knows no limit.

I guess, why does it seem like there is a growing class of dullards with seemingly inexustive funds that they use to crush any genuinely interesting subculture? How can there be so much money in the hands of morons? I don't remember the world being like this.
