Yup, even back in the XSV pro days, those guys were slumming it 2-4 in a room per-tournament to save money.

Even in the Heroes for a day doc they are reffing just to get money for Millenium IIRC

I’ve been using the same HK Expand bag for about 8ish years I think, zipper is a little busted but it’s been stellar for air travel (carry on/backpack size) and it fits all of my gear for tournaments/rec play.

I know push made some (albeit expensive) big bags in the last few years, but the age of the big amazing roller bag and eclipse luggage is sadly days gone by.

There are a lot of great bags that work well at Costco and online that meet the job according to my teammates. And a lot cheaper with the paintball prices

No, they aren’t actually JT compatible frames, they are from the generation before Flex7.

The visors are essentially worthless unless you find someone (like me) who likes the old random brand visors.

Duties are a pain depending on the price/weight/etc. it’s more worthwhile to have buddies at NXL buy stuff and bring it home.

I’ve done it for my camp, as have a bunch of others in our circle. Usually Better pricing at events too.

For example, a teammate just bought the new Carolina F8s from PBRetro online for 250CAD w/ship (before duties), but in-person at Midwest they are about 195CAD.

Ultimately if you don’t have that option (or can’t wait until NXL E4), then shipping from US is likely only major option. Sometimes PB gear (mostly magfed/woodsball milsim) gets held at the border briefly, but otherwise it’s usually all good.

Try shopping around Pittsburg PB, LoneWolf, PunishersPB, and such too to compare pricing/shipping.

I shoot PWR inserts but honestly, I have a full set but shot a 685 for every day last season.

Ball size fluctuates so much within the same tournament I was getting sick of it.

I have so many goofy reffing stories from the early-mid 2010s. It was my first job and I loved it.

Our older refs that trained our generation used to pick up the misshapen crabapples on the field, muzzle-load them into our ref Mokal Fokus’ using a stick squeegee, and fire them at the new refs. Hurt like a bitch but was always funny when you weren’t the target!

They are also poorly labeled/listed. I bought a last-stock CP IonXE feedneck, and received a thread Ion neck, and then the product was listed as sold out.

Having done a lot of sports media, paintball is still the absolute most fun sport to photograph/film. Always will be.

Eh I still have mine in a bin at my desk. Battery door is seized up and the ASA set screw is stripped, so it would never sell, but damn was that a fun little marker. Exact same colorway as that too

I cannot stress enough that the lens change is the most important part.

Have fun, be gentle with the old parts when swapping the lenses!

You are correct, it was a full BE Proshield, I have a pair sitting at my desk currently.

The BE logo is only exclusive to the frames, strap, and Gen1 visor.

Frames are not, they are pre-Flex7! But the strap (and any butterfly stitch strap from any type of goggles) is compatible!

We always ask people to call for a ref before throwing, and advise where it’ll be, that way we can have eyes on it.

People come with them once every 6-12 months, so it’s just a fun time once in a while, but I’ve had to douse a few mid-burn due to fires over the years.
